The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra makes its home in Port Charlotte , at the center of the county. Perched on the edge of Charlotte Harbor, the Charlotte County Historical Center tells the story of the local area since prehistoric times, with rotating exhibits focusing on local and state history. The Charlotte Players have been staging live theater since 1961, and the Cultural Center of Charlotte County presents classes, lectures and concerts all year ‘round. The Major League Tampa Bay Rays hold spring training at Charlotte County Stadium, which also is home to minor league, collegiate, amateur and youth baseball games. Parks – both inland and on the water – offer paths for hiking and biking, kayak and canoe trails and other opportunities for outdoor fun. A shopping mall, national restaurant chains and movie theaters round out the recreational choices.
