Walnut Hill Park is located near downtown New Britain.  It has two levels.  The larger being the lower having an open feild ringed by trees and a walking path. this could be called a fitness park.  The walking path is heavily used.  In the summer, there are people walking right up until the park closes at 11P.M..  There are two small tennis courts that are open to the public providing no organized instruction is in progress.  On the other side of the field, there is a baseball diamond which is sometimes in use.

The walking path is heavily used by people of all ages and ethnic groups.  It's really not your picnic type of park, but if you want some sunshine and exercise head for this spot.  Because it is so well used by folks and their dogs you are completely safe.  There are also intermittant exercise stations adjacent to the walking path.  As an added benefit you get to view some of New Britain's Older more stately homes as you do the walk.  Parking is available.  The lower level also has a playground suitable for toddlers and young children.   Right above the path you see the back of the shell which is home to summer concerts and the like.  The upper level has gardens and a war memorial.  The upper level gives a spectacular view of New Britain and beyond.  The walking path also passes by the New Britain Museum which has recently undergone an expansion and is also a great place to visit.
