Here is a link to information about day trips around Jaipur:
1) City tour - this is runned by the local tourist office, and may not be a good option, unless you only have a day in jaipur and want to be whisked around the sights with a guide. A half day tour is at 150rs and a full day is 200rs which extends to the tiger fort and the Jaigarh fort, the bus was non-AC and starts at set times from the office, but don't expect it to be on time. the stops per sight was very short so you don't get to soak up the scenes. this is particularly felt at the Amer Fort where there are amazing panoramic views. And there is a 35 minute stop at a government craft centre, where you are subjected to vendors trying to sell you shawls and other rajasthan handicrafts, this isn't listed on the itenerary.
2) A day trip that is worth consideration is to combine Amber Fort and Palace with a trip to Samode Palace. This can be done by first driving out to Amber Fort early in the morning to enjoy your elephant ride and visit to the Fort and Palace, prior to then making your way out to Samode Palace for a lunch at the Samode Restaurant, followed by a guided visit to the Palace. Then, you can return to Jaipur by late afternoon or early evening, having seen two very good fort and palace attractions just outside of Jaipur.
