Singapore has a variety of accommodation in all budget ranges. There is no need to stay right near the Cruise Terminal. The Marina Bay area is full of 4-5 star expensive hotels, and there are not many hotels in the Harbourfront area. Taxis are plentiful, metered and inexpensive, or the MRT Underground train system is simple to use and efficient. You can easily stay elsewhere in the city and be at your cruise terminal within 15-25 minutes.
Use the GoThere Mapping tool website to see where any hotel is in relation to the cruise terminal you need.
There are recommended hotel, hostel and Serviced Apartment lists in the Singapore Forums 'Top Questions' section (down the right-hand side of the forum page). They range from basic Hostels, 2.5 Star Budget small hotels, mid-range hotels and 4-5 star Luxury hotels, as well as Serviced Apartments for longer stays. Some people choose to book accommodation within the Airport itself. There are a range of options, eg. Aerotel, Ambassador Transit Hotels, The Haven, Crowne Plaza Hotel, plus quite a number of hotels in the Changi Beach area, or East Coast area which is half way between the airport and city. This Traveller Article on Hotels at or Nearby Changi Airport outlines the various options -
Some Airlines allow early-checkin for your flight home or onwards. Some people disembark in Singapore and store their luggage using the Baggage Storage options mentioned above, then they go out sightseeing in the city, return to collect their bags and head out to Changi Airport. Others wish to go straight to the airport, do early-checkin for their flight (depending on their airline), and check into one of the accommodation options within the airport to shower, rest and get ready for their flight.
Here is a link from the Changi Airport website on which Airlines allow early check-in -
