Over the past two years a number of new hostels have opened up in Singapore. Many are in renovated and converted Shophouse Terraces in interesting locations, with good access to public transport and dining options. Some are more expensive than regular or existing hostels because they have smaller dorms, enclosed Pod beds with curtains that offer more privacy, and higher security with swipe cards for dorm access.
The great feature of all hostels is that they offer free WIFI Internet access, and many have an internet corner with desktop computers or laptops available for guest use. Most provide a basic breakfast, have drinks machines, washing machines, games room/lounge area, and staff can provide information about local tourist attractions and public transport in the locality.
This list may help in your search for good quality hostel/budget accommodation in Singapore. Bookings can be made directly with the hostel, or on websites such as hostelworld or hostelbookers. The Hotel Booking websites Wotif and booking.com also list many of these hostels for booking.
Of course it is wise to check out the reviews here on Tripadvisor before making a booking. The reviews are written by recent guests, and many include actual photos of the hostel and its dorms. To read their TripAdvisor reviews use the search boxes at the top of any TripAdvisor forum page.
