Port Vila now has two earthbag buildings one at Mele Mart and one on Erakor rd Port Vila. These are the first earthbag houses to be built in the South Pacific. For anyone interested in sustainable housing and buildings that will cope with extreme weather then visiting these houses is a must. The house at Mele is a private house off the beaten track but the round house half way down Erakor rd is a women's centre and market place that you visit any day of the week.

It is bright pink so you can't miss it.

The houses were both built by local women and men.

They have also built water tanks and store rooms using the same method. Amazing what you can do with dirt and old rice bags.
