Aspen Highlands is the ski resort with the most expert terrain in the Aspen/Snowmass area - a lot of black diamonds - and a favorite of the locals.
Parking is nearby and if you have multiple people in the car, it's free. When parking, make sure to choose the most right lane or the covered area, otherwise you have to walk quite far to the escalator to the village. In any case it's a walkable distance, no need in the shuttle.
Aspen Highlands has a lot of neat features:
The Bowl- THE extreme skiing destination. A 20 minute hike brings you over 1500 vertical feet of awesome 45 degree terrain and more powder than you could ever ski
different kind of scenery - the top of the mountain has large cliffs of rusty color and trails on the edges of the clifs
trails are a lot of fun for an experienced skier - you can gain a lot of speed
not as crowded as Snowmass or Aspen Mountain
plenty of lifts, though all of them are open style
good quality of terrain - groomed
awesome tree runs
very, very, very small signs - difficult to read them
small resort in general (can see it all in one day )
not a family place unless your kids are skiing "monsters" (like a lot are in CO)
In general a must try if you are an experienced skier.
