Public transport - Translink - in Queensland is excellent. They have a scheme that allows retired people to travel on the buses, trains and City Cat ferries in Brisbane at a reduced rate but you must be an Australian citizen. There is no way around this but if you intend to use the public transport that is fast, clean and efficient, purchase a GOCARD. Best place to do this is a railway station.
The GOCARD looks like a credit card and you can charge it with whatever amount you wish e.g. A$50. Having a GOCARD allows you to travel at half the cost of buying a ticket when you get onto the transport. You just swipe it when you get on and again when you get off. They can be recharged at many bus stops or at any railway station. A great idea giving great savings. Well done Queensland.
