Many people are interested in seeing other parts of the world than the area they are from and experiencing other cultures, but some hesitate because they are afraid of the risks which are involved in travel.  Those people should make Reykjavik their first foreign travel destination.  Not only is the area absolutely beautiful, but it is one of the safest places in the world for tourists to visit.  Crime against tourists (and locals for that matter) is almost non-existent and health risks are low.

There is virtually no violent crime in Reykjavik.  Homelessness is not a problem, drugs are not a problem.  In fact, visitors are very unlikely to see any signs of anything but a pleasant and relaxing life during their Reykjavik stay.  There are no “bad neighborhoods” or areas to avoid in Reykjavik.  Even non-violent crime is very rare.  Tourists should always take standard precautions, such as not leaving purses unattended, but there is very little to fear in Reykjavik.

Reykjavik is also a very healthy area, where the water is safe to drink and the restaurant food is meant to be enjoyed.  No special immunizations or vaccinations are required (or even suggested) for travelers coming to the area.  Other than having some of the highest rates of STI's in the EU, Iceland and Reykjavik is very safe.  Just protect yourself if you choose to participate in some adult activities!  Overall, this is a place where visitors can relax and be carefree, letting down their guard and enjoying their vacation.
