The closest airport to Cortona is in Perugia, 48km (30 miles) away, which has direct flights from London (Ryanair) and Brussels. However, if you are flying from the United States, the closest airport you would fly into is in Rome. Once you fly into Italy, you can easily get to Cortona by train or by car. There are several options for taking the train. Trains run from Milan, Florence, and Rome frequently, and you can take a train from those locations without a problem. There are also trains coming out of the Terontola-Cortona railway station daily. This railway station is 194 km from Rome and 122 km from Florence. This railway station is 11 km from Cortona. Another option is using the Camucia-Cortona railway station. The Camucia railway station is 3 km from Cortona. There is a bus service from both railway stations that can take you to the town. If you want to, you could also rent a car and drive up to Cortona. To get there, you would take the Autostrada del Sole, the state highway. You would take the "Valdichiana" exit, and from there take the Siena-Perugia state road, continuing towards Perugia. There are three possible exits to get to Cortona from there. You could take either Cortona via Manzano, Cortona via Laurentana, or Cortona via Strada Statale 71(State Road 71).
