The first Cork mother Jones Festival was held last summer. It was held in and around the Shandon Bells Church on the north side of Cork City. The three day event commemorated a powerful Cork Woman, Mary Harris who is known throughout the world as Mother Jones. The festival was full of excitement, colour, music, song and there were plenty of talks on the life and legacy of her work in the United States.
The festival will be held again this year and it starts on Tuesday 30th of July and continues till Thursday 1st of August. The line up of events are suitable for everybody and it features speakers from Ireland ,UK and USA who will discuss issues associated with social justice, labour history and trade union struggles. If it's only music your looking for, the festival has plenty to offer with Andy Irvine, Two Time Polka, Hank Wedel, Cork Singers' Club, Jimmy Crowley and loads more of Cork finest musicians to entertain you. So if you are in Cork this summer then call up to Shandon and ask about the Spirit of Mothers Jones Cork Festival.
