Rising from a remote plain, majestic Uluru is one of Australia’s most iconic sites
One of the natural wonders of the world, Uluru is a massive dome of red sandstone that seems to rise directly from the desert landscape. Hike around the base at sunrise or sunset, when the formation appears to be lit from within. Uluru is a deeply spiritual site for the Anangu people, and the caves here are filled with remarkable rock art in vivid shades of red, yellow, and brown that date back at least 10,000 years. Also within the national park is the less frequently visited Kata Tjuta, where you’ll find multiple majestic rock domes, some higher than Uluru.
