The surrounding area was idyllic. The cottage had two double rooms and was very cosy and well equipped. The welcoming cream tea is a lovely thought. The nearest villiage was a mile away. This could be accessible by foot or car. However there is a very steep narrow lane which would not suit all. Allocated parking space for one car as said on imformation. It did not however say that the nearest place to park is a mile away from cottage, if you have 2 cars. Time out in your day would be taken up in collecting and dropping off your vehicle. This is felt something that potential holiday hirer's should be imformed of as it may make a difference to their decision to stay. Especially if its designed for four people to stay in and coming from different parts of the country in two cars.
On suite shower become a very wet room due to its size being very small. Although these are negative points overall a very nice place to stay.

We just returned from a week at The Smithy - we're a family of four with two pre-teen/teen daughters. While it is quite adventurous actually finding the cottage just outside Chulmleigh, we were positively surprised at how spacious and light it was. Two huge bedrooms with a bath each and a grand sitting/dining room with open kitchen. As a welcome a full cream tea and owner Sue came to greet us too. We felt instantly at home. Just behind the cottage, you can access a huge park-like space with pond, streams, meadows. Our girls fed the fish every day, went jogging around the pond and we had lunch there too one day. Wifi works well, there is a shared shed in the garden with some play equipment and wellies to borrow. Highly recommended, if you are looking for a truly remote, but comfortable nature retreat.
Lovely tastefully converted barn cottage. Comfortable with everything you need for a relaxing break in a quiet rural setting. Walking, picnicking or fishing in the 20 acre adjoining grounds with lake and river is highly recommended. Cream tea provided on arrival is an added bonus. Other walks in the area provide stunning scenery and the town of Chumleigh just a mile away has all necessities. Would certainly like to stay here again.
