We visited Norwood Green Resort in October 2020 - yes in these times of COVID.
Here are some of the reasons after talking with their helpful and informed reservations person - Hema. It is not a typical hotel, but a resort right on a tea estate, and the place has a lot of open air, no recycled ac ventilation, but fresh natural setting of a tea estate.
We were skeptical about the sanitization, but with the detailed description of the sanitization procedure - it was satisfactory. Hema told that the room is sanitized by internal cleaning staff, they are using sprays, foot covers, gloves, masks and taking all the precautions.
We saw this happening from Day 1 onwards - so the level of trust went up immediately!
Let me start by talking about the drive, the room/cottage and food, family comforts and Sanjay Kumar & Sanjay Shah.
The drive from Delhi in long - but with the love of driving, it will not be a typical mountain drive with narrow roads or deep gorges. Palampur is not even 500 KM from Delhi - but with the construction happening on NH44 - it causes a lot of delays. The mountain part is very comfortable, with 2 lane driving and smooth curves.
The cottages are individually standing, and in-fact they are actual homes with parking lot, 4 rooms, a living room, open verandah and staircase for the rooms upstairs...but these are not Bed & Breakfast..
The room we took was very spacious even with an extra bed, fitted with large screen TV, 2 large closets, very spacious bathroom and amazing high ceiling. We took the 1st floor room with a huge balcony in Cottage #4. The balcony is the highlight of the room, and it is very large, covered and has amazing views of the valleyed tea gardens below and the Dhaulahar mountains on the right side. Amazing beauty. See the pictures.
The kids were playing daily in the tea garden, with their various finds in the valley and doing what kids do best...the tea bushes were not trimmed, but it was not a deterrent for the kids to spend at least 2 hours daily in the tea garden. We were also part of their daily adventures, with a good hike and walk - it was very refreshing. Palampur itself is very quiet and serene. Every empty space has a tea garden...no wonder it is called the Tea Capital of North India.
We had every meal in the spacious balcony! Right from the 1st night's dinner to the breakfast on the day of check-out. The best part is that there are no fixed timings for breakfast, and you can order in advance thru your assigned butler. Yes, each cottage has an assigned butler. He will take care of all your requirements, brings your meals to the room or dining room where ever you prefer to eat. Our butler was Sanjay Kumar and he was very polite, and efficient. He was always in a mask and wearing gloves.
Food quality was amazing, right from the paneer dishes, the poha, vada's, idli's, upma, parantha, puri, bhature, choley, dal, naan, Chinese and believe it Italian (one of the best cannoli & red sauce pasta) .... Amazing taste that is not dripping with oil or too spicy. Breakfast was complimentary - and it had the best variety to select from, served hot right in our balcony.
Before I end my review, another Sanjay made and took personal interest in our comfort at the resort - Sanjay Shah, the Operations manager. Mr. Shah was persistent in calling every couple of hours - and checking our status in terms of arrival. He was personally present daily in asking about our stay and if he could make anything better. A matter of fact - we extended for 1 extra night, as it was so comfortable in the cottage and the serene peaceful sights and sounds in Palampur.
Thanks to Mr. Shah, it was a memorable stay and felt as if Norwood was a home away from home.
