“Hotel Malligi Hampi”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 March 2012

My stay at Hotel Malligi in Hospet from 18 Mar 2012 was as an experience to be remembered. Basic arrangement like pick up from rail station based on email booking of the room was taken care without request. Courteous attention by hotel staff from checking in to the details of services provided like an extra bed request was planned and executed before arrival reflects coordination by the hotel. It makes a difference from the usual calls to the desk that I have experienced during stay in most highly rated hotels.
Food served was excellent andd so was the restaurant decor including the cafe.
Swimming pool location is ideal but a consideration after the dip, you need to walk across open space before retreat to room.

Room Tip: My room was great and had chairs and table laid outside for my smoke, away from room. View from wind...

We stayed in Hospet since I was travelling with older relatives who like their 5 star comforts, and to be honest, so do I after a 10 hour sleeper train journey to get here.
Rooms were clean and nicely kept, but were starting to decay a little around the edges. Otherwise they maintain this hotel very well.
The breakfast wasn´t great, it is taken in the restaurant across the street from the hotel, (where the pool is also located). Plenty of Indian choices but the breakfast service staff are not the fastest or the best in the hotel. Took us a few asks to get our tea and cutlery. There aren´t too many non-indian breakfast choices, cornflakes were stale and the toast is the thick, sweet-tasting, processed bread you find all over India. There is some fresh fruit and curd, but overall not impressed with breakfast.
The "blue" restaurant on the other hand is great, food is snacky-style (wraps, burgers, shakes etc with some Indian choices also) but delicious and the staff here very attentive.
Don´t book this hotel on the promise of the pool, like I did. I was quite disappointed in the pool. I had expected "an azure pool" as described in LP, but the pool water was cloudy and full of young local teenagers jumping in and out, you would not get me in there for love nor money. There is nowhere to sunbathe at the pool, I had hoped to get a sunlounger and do some sunning, so don´t expect this. In fact, there is nowhere to sit outside at this hotel, other than one or two tables facing the central courtyard. The rooms don´t have balconies, so keep this in mind.
If you need slightly more comfort then by all means book here, bear in mind that the price is high for what you get, but it´s the best option in Hospet, if you don´t want to stay in the thick of things at Hampi. Autorickshaw to hampi is around 80 roops.

spent 2 nights here in Feb 2012. Rooms opening onto a central courtyard offeer some respite froom a very busy tight dirty town. the main restauraunt (waves) was for the most part ok not great food and the service was so bad we went across the hotel for the "veg" restuarant. Total opposite. Food and service was world class and superb!!! Pool offered at this hotel was cloudy and used extensively by local swim clubs that used up all locker room fascilities over the guests??? ordered a drink at the poolside tables one evening and waited over 30 minutes with 2 queries for them? not good service. Unfortunately not many other choices other than a very high end or low end.

Room Tip: something not overlooking the front car couryard as the doorman starts using a very loud whistle to...

It is a good accommodation option while visiting Hampi. Rooms are basic but clean, adequate size. Breakfast buffet was good. Service is not a strong point.

I stayed 3 nights at the Hotel Malligi in Hospet while visiting Hampi. My room was spacious and very clean with complimentary tea/coffee service and snacks, strong AC, a mini fridge, clean bathroom with lots of hot water, and inexpensive laundry service. The friendly, efficient staff warned me not to open the windows because the monkeys would come in and "they are very mischievous."

The complimentary breakfast buffet was good. The restaurant in the evening had cold Kingfisher beer, good nan and an excellent chicken methiwallah.

If you have your own transport, the Hotel Malligi is a good choice when planning a trip to Hampi.
