“Saturday night amongst the AFL rush”
Reviewed 23 April 2012

Was seated promptly despite not having reservations for a busy Saturday night with an expected crowd coming from the Subi Oval footy game.
Chirpy staff were very attentive, our mains came along perfectly timed after our entree.
Delicious bambito chimichangas for entree was the perfect serving size for us two girls (comes in 4 small rolls). We followed on with the BBQ platter (on the specials menu), the highlight was the pork ribs, meat coming off the bone so tender, the other items weren't so great. The restaurant got particularly noisy as it filled up, quite clustrophobic almost with the closely arranged tables.
Overall it was a lively dining experience which is expected of a Mexican eatery.

“Overpriced and undercooked”
Reviewed 21 February 2012

Went in early in the evening as the room is small and no amount of air conditioning was going to make this evening cooler.

Had a child with us and no kids menu was offerred. Requested a cheese quesadilia which blew the mind of the waiter, it took him all of 5 minutes to write that into his computer pad.The hostess did come out and offer us the childs version at a lower cost, the waiter did not even see the child, just another person to serve. Cocktails were brilliant, 2 for 1 made the evening bearable. The appetizer was fine actually, chips were good, 3 dips were fine although the tomatoes could have been chopped finer. The mains were sad. I had a burrito with spicy chicken, I think they left the spices at homes and the chicken had nothing holding it together inside the burrito so it was a mess trying to eat it. All the melted cheese was on top rather than being inside. My partner had the tasting plate, half of which was cold rather than hot in temperature and again nothing to bind the chicken together in the taco, no sauces all rather bland. I had warned him that this place was reuted to be overpriced and food to be average but he wanted to prove me wrong. I love it when I am right. I am sorry but this is TexMex at its worse and people actually think Mexian food is meant to served in this fashion. Thankfully there are better Mexican resturants in the city to get too.

“It's gone off a lot”
Reviewed 10 January 2012

We went here a couple of times a year or so ago and really enjoyed it. But we went last Sunday and were very disappointed. We were the only people in the place, until just before we left. The waitress was pleasant enough, and service OK (well, it wouldn't be hard just serving four people) but the food was under par. The layered dip with corn chips was OK, but the ribs were tough and both the boys said were the worst they'd had. The tacos were a bit ordinary, and didn't come with salsa. My enchiladas were tasty although the beans in the chilli were a bit tough. Which maybe means they had been cooked from scratch instead of using tinned ones. We had beers (good list of Mexican beers) and cider (2) to drink, and water arrived as soon as we sat down. Decor is what you'd expect, and the music improved radically after a while, from Beatles to genuine Mexican.

“This Mexican fails to excite”

Terrible service, average food, dull decor. Can't really say much more than that.
