The hotel looks wonderful as you arrive at the main reception, it is beautifully decorated but that is no compensation for the poor service and shabby room decoration we experienced.
It took some time to check in even although we were the only ones there, staff didn't seem fully trained in the check in process.
Our room had scuffed furnishings and walls, pen marks on the chairs, chunks cut out of the bedside table - not at all 5 star.
We had no hot water in the bathroom when we arrived and got it fixed the following afternoon - not good in a beach/ sun resort when you want to shower - again not 5 star.
Room service was excellent and we were very pleased with the food and service we received.
The beach area to the Dead Sea is full of sharp stones and it's easy to cut your feet - again a 5 star hotel would have had that area cleared.
Parts of the hotel look lovely, especially the sunterrace area but in truth the hotel is 3 star masquarading as a 5 star hotel. This is not representaive of the Kempinski brand, I have experienced European hotels in the chain which are 5 star.

After spending the day at Petra, we drove to the Kempinski and From the moment you walk into the lobby, we were offered fresh juices , another attendant brought over small towels to refresh our face. They booked us in the tower whcih was under construction so upgraded us to the Villas for the same price. Gorgeous spacious rooms, 5 star quality. Free mini bar, free hi speed internet, beautiful beach, unbelieveable sunset. We ate at the itialian restaurant and the kids loved the pizza and I had chilean bass that was great. Their prices were reasonable on food but their wine prices were too high. The beach is rocky so wear water shoes. Overall, the hotel was very impressive, beautiful landscaping and the breakfast was included as well and had a huge selection. My teens want to go back next summer.

Every review of this hotel always says how fantastic it looks and then adds the big BUT and this reveiw is no exception the Kempinski Ishtar is the newest kid on the block at the Dead Sea but will lose that title to the Holiday Inn Resort in a few months.
The hotel is big and impressive if you like things on the grand scale this is the place for you it has the largest reception area at the Dead Sea, the largest infinity pool, the largest Spa in the Middle East. They have squeezed a lot into the plot and the place is so vast you need little golf buggies to get around of course all this vastness comes with a lot of concrete with high walls and not being on a human scale. The staff are friendly and helpful enough and the management do take seriously any problems you may have and try to resolve the situation to your satisfaction.
I have stayed in two types of room the superior (main building) and villa (private-ish), the superior has been designed with tuetonic efficiency in the use of space and Bauhaus style in design great if you are into boutique hotels, the villas are large well furnished and comfortable what both rooms have in common are fantastic bathrooms with proper full sized baths and attention to detail and design in all areas. The free mini bar has two small cans of beer the rest is soft drinks only but still as you cannot nip to the shops its better than paying through the nose.
The beach area is excellent with showers available as soon as you step out of the extremely salty water there are also several swimming pools spread around the site two with their own dining facility close at hand so it never feels crowded.
Unfortunately as many reviewers have noted before the choice of food is very limited for a 5 star hotel during my most recent visit the Thai restaurant was closed reducing the choice further and all eating outlets close at 11pm!
The villa areas have two private-ish pools but this is a bit of sales hype as anyone can wander along and use them there being no exclusive access to these areas or signs saying residents only. Signage would appear to be a problem as even the infinity pool which has a shallow slope up to the edge of the pool where the water cascades down on the other side 4 metres on to concrete has no signs to say it is dangerous or no children allowed, the first time I swam up to the edge I was shocked at how easy it would have been to go straight over head first!. Admittedly the lifeguards are vigilant sometimes risking their own necks to walk along a narrow wet ledge to tell some kids to get back.
The Kempinski Ishtar is a big modern 5 star hotel and its prices reflect this, after two visits I left with the feeling that it was trying to please everyone and not suceeding very well.

Stayed with my wife after visiting Petra. After being in Petra is hard to be impressed, but the Dead Sea can manage it. The Kempinski Hotel at the Dead Sea is one of those super exclusive hotels who also makes you feel very comfortable. It´s contemporary design makes you forget you´re walking distance from the dead sea.
- The rooms grat, specially they have a impressive bathroom;
- The food is excellent;
- The service is perfect n every areas;

In few words, it´s worth all the money you pay!!

A huge hotel divided into two zones (main building and villas) with all the amenities and services you could get in a capital city yet it is by the Dea Sea.
Overall we are satisfied with our stay at the Kempinski. The room (Deluxe Villa) was large and nice (althaugh the view was not as impressive as expected); the bathroom are astonishing. But there was a lack of responsiveness on the service side: we had to call three times to get some lighting problems fixed into our room. Then the hotel organised a party on the beach (probably a seminar), we could not sleep until midnight and we had to negociate and complain to get this night for free. It is quite surprising just to dare to organise noisy event in front of the premium rooms of the hotel while they have so many empty spaces all over the resort.
The other surprise was on Friday. All swimingpool were busy!!! there was no way to find a transat to enjoy the sun. I guess that the rich Amman people are coming to this hotel to party on Friday (lots of alcohol!!!), was very fun to spot the 20's crowd getting drunk around the main swiming pool but it was harder to rest (loud music).
Then the food. It is average at most. Almost the same meals offered on all the swimingpool restaurants. You get bored by the food after just two days.
