We were on Roatan for our nephew`s wedding, staying at the Mayan Princess. The trip from the airport to the hotel was the usual island white knuckling drive; excessive speed, sharp turns, old vehicle, etc. but we made it. At check in we had to wait while the staff of 7 completed their conversations about something and were able to help us find our reservation. Our room was on the 3rd floor but 5 flights of stairs, and my wife, who had just had surgery, asked where the elevator was, and was informed that it was out of order. When I checked back the next day, it was still out of order because there was no elevator, and typical of this local, like Mexico, you will be told anything, regardless of truth, just so you go away. The room was clean, maid service good, food very marginal, you could not drink the water, the beach and water were stunning, but the vendors hawking their wares daily were relentless and god bless you if you made the mistake of making any kind of eye contact with them. We like the Caribbean and have vacationed on many islands but this is too local for our tastes. Probably good for the scuba crowd as there was a lot of that activity. Another example of misguided information: I went to the Mayan Princess bar in the afternoon to get some beers and was told that no American money was accepted after 2:30 and I would have to get Honduran currency, a rule for the whole island. Moving down two buildings on the beach, the bartender gladly accepted greenbacks without a comment. Beautiful island, but service and staff knowledge at the Mayan Princess are just like the elevator-invisible. Too many great islands to go to before ever venturing back to this place.

Room Tip: go to another hotel

This place was second to none, from the reception we received when we first got there to last minute we left. I have traveled throughout the United States and have visited different countries, but this place tops them all from the maid service, wait staff, chef and his staff, and bar service. wedding planner was the best. like to thank Jean, Mariela, Juanita, Belkie, Vanessa, Santos, Mario, Cindy and the rest of the staff that made our trip an experience of a lifetime . 10 stars for the Mayan Princess

Room Tip: I feel every place is fine, we were a big group and stayed in different areas , and did not here one complaint

I had a great time with my family. The staff was so friendly and always concern of helping with any question or requests that we had. My daughter is a picky eater and every morning the cook would take the time to fix her plate just exactly as she wanted. What to say about the beach with it's white sand and crystal blue waters very clean and the staff was also there to offer their help. The views from the hotel were spectacular. We are definitely coming back and stay here. So peaceful.

Went with a group; lots of planned activities during the day for us.
POSITIVES
SCUBA staff - professional, efficient, prepared.
Staff - friendly, respectful
Facility - terrific. Top notch

NOT-SO GOOD
No shore diving. All dives must be off a boat. Not enough dives for the money.
Food - got old after a while. Three restaurants - all rather bland. Get off the resort if that's a big deal to you
Too much of a "party beach". Located near a string of resorts catering to tourists who like to drink, play loud music and party.

Overall - this is a resort for people who like to dive - not "divers".

NOTE: They offer wi-fi, but not available in the room. Signal sucks

Room Tip: Go to the building adjacent to the "main" resort.

With a total of four people in the San Simon club, part of Mayan Princess, Music blurred and 90+ decibels until 230 in the morning. Completely unnecessary and aggravating. If you want rest, if you are a diver eho gets up early for diving, this is not the place for that.
