“2nd trip just as great as the first!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2012

A group of adults in their 40's traveled with me to Roatan in February, and we had so much fun we came back for a week in June.
Bananarama is set on a beautiful stretch of West Bay Beach, literally steps from the white sand and crystal blue water.
The rooms are basic but fit our needs well. We stayed in room 22, which was next to the restaurant, and right on the sand. We had clean rooms, hot water, and cool air conditioning. The sewer "acted up" a couple of days and there was a smell in the room, but they were working to get that fixed as quickly as possible.
The setting was amazing, and the staff was incredible! Jessica served us a great breakfast every morning, and always had a smile on her face. She remembered all of us by the second day. She was great and always took care of us and made sure we had everything we needed.
The Thirsty Turtle is the bar/restaurant on the premises, and we took advantage of it quite often. Steven made an incredible mojito which I highly recommend. Zebby and Eddison were also very attentive and seemed very happy to be working there. They all made the trip relaxing and worry-free.
I felt extremely safe at Bananarama, as there were guards posted along the beach. We would leave our belongings laying in a beach chair for hours as we walked up and down the beach, got in the ocean, snorkeled, etc. We never had any problems. There were vendors on the beach, however, they were not aggressive. And on days when cruise ships were in port, Bananarama had an entire beach section reserved for their guests, which was nice.
Roatan is a beautiful island and Bananarama is a wonderful, relaxing place to stay to enjoy the fabulous beach, and attentive and friendly service. I'm already planning my third trip back again someday soon!

We just returned from a week at Bananarama and are already planning our next visit. The location is perfect. If you like to snorkel then this is the place. The reef is just a short swim off the beach with easy access just a two minute walk away. This is nice because it is close but keeps congestion away from the beach directly in front of Bananarama. We have our own equipment but you can rent it at the activity center for the day or the week.

Our family had two rooms, a Garden Cabana and a Beach Side room. Both rooms were very clean and comfortable. All the rooms/cabanas have porches with chairs and hammocks for relaxing and enjoying the tropical gardens. It is not a luxury resort but is exactly what we wanted...simple beach front fun.

After a full day of swimming, sunning, and snorkeling the casual atmosphere and good food at the Thirsty Turtle hit the spot. They also provide a very nice breakfast to get the day started. Thanks to our great servers, Jessica and Sheena Gale!!! They always had a smile and warm greeting. There are daily drink and dinner specials as well as some type of activity or entertainment every evening...live music, movies, games, fire dancers, etc.

We used the resort's airport transfers and it went smoothly concidering the overall chaos at the airport. It is a small airport and quite busy on weekends. Check-in and check-out were a breeze. The office staff was very cordial and efficient.

Room Tip: The beach side rooms (#15 & 16) have a partial water view.

Just returned from a wonderful dive trip to Roatan with my husband. This was my second time at Bananarama and my husband's third. We love Bananarama's dive shop. Their dive masters are the best and it was great to see them sharing their knowledge and talents to train new dive masters. Kristian took us out for a nice dive to start the trip with Brooke as his dive master in training. Then our friend Marco kept the great dives coming for the rest of the week. Everyone helped me make Kevin's birthday special. It ended up being his 100th dive that day. Brooke led her first dive that day and we saw everything on Kevin's birthday wish list. Great way to end our trip. I can't do this review without thanking the waiters Zebby and Jessica. They gave us great service all week, but on Kevin's birthday, Jessica took some of the banana donuts I'd gotten and "whipped" them into a beautiful arrangement to serve as a birthday cake and we sang happy birthday to him. Thanks Jessica. There were other nice waiters who helped us, but I didn't get their names. Steven at the bar was also very helpful. Jose the security guard was great to help us with our bags and always had a friendly hola as he made his rounds. I appreciate the kind señor who cares for the beach each morning making it beautiful and clean and bringing me a chair to enjoy the view. Thanks Bananarama for another incredible vacation. Can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Please realize that the water pressure is not great in the rooms we have had, but when you realize w...

The staff was outstanding....particularly Jessica, Steven, Derry and Eddison. Very warm and accomodating. Six friends went for a relaxing week and it is exactly what we got. The breakfast each morning was delicious and served waterfront. Live music and various fun activities went on during the evening. The water smell in the resort is less than desirable, but better than 99% of the people on the island deal with every day. Would recommend Smuggler's Cove, Thirsty Turtle, Plantation Bay, and Foster's for dinner. Overall...Great trip!

My wife and 7 year old daughter went down to Roatan last weekend...we have been having a very stressful year so far and we needed to unwind. And this place was just what we needed.

Pros: Breakfast was included and was very good each day
Staff was fantastic (Jessica and Zebby at the tables, Scott and Derry (Go Braves!!!) behind the bar.
The location was great ...we had a five minute walk to some of the best snorkeling I have ever seen
Go to Gumbalimba Park for a little history of the island and encounters with beautiful Maccaws and Capuchin monkeys
Happy Hour - Need I say more

Cons: There is not a tremendous variety of good restaurants in West Bay (Thirst Turtle and Bit on the Beach were good). Went into West End to Lighthouse restaurant and had a good meal (Chef is a riot). BEWARE: if you take a water taxi in for dinner...you will have to take a regular taxi back as they shut down the piers after 6:00.
If we have a chance to go back...I would not stay in RM 22. to close to the restaurant and when they have live music...it will get loud.
Only reason we did not give this a 5* was because our room had a septic problem letting in some very foul air. Spoke to Ricardo and they were in the process of fixing it...so there will probably not be any future issues.

Con

Room Tip: Find a room...24 or 25 on the Island Pearl side...better deck and air movement
