We had a fantastic stay at Hotel Zum Engel. We were upgraded from the Sterzl basic rooms to the Löwenegg Junior Suites. The rooms were very spacious with comfortable seating areas and a minibar fridge. The balconies were a good size and covered reasonably well from the rain. The rooms also had air conditioning which worked very well. The bathrooms were spotless and modern. The beds were large and very comfortable. The Wi-Fi worked perfectly all the time.

The breakfast was fabulous. The dining room has great views over the hotel's garden. There was a huge selection of food including freshly squeezed orange juice, bio honey, homemade yogurts, cheese meats, breads and cakes. There was also a great tea selection.

There is a garden which is nice to walk around with lots of seating areas (and robot lawnmowers!) The hotel has its own cafe-bar which is open from 8 am to 11 pm with indoor and outdoor patio seating.

We didn't eat in the restaurant as the menu was limited and quite expensive.
All the staff were very helpful and friendly.

If you visit Sterzing during the summer, you are given a guest card called the activeCARD which allows free travel on trains and buses in the South Tyrol for the duration of your stay and free entry to lots of attractions including the Gilfenklamm gorge and the South Tyrolean Museum of Archaeology.

We were presented with chocolates when leaving which was a nice touch. I highly recommend Hotel Zum Engel and honestly cannot think of any notable negatives.

We spent 4 days and nights at Zum Engel very recently, and the experience was generally very pleasing. With half pension, the food was simply wonderful, so well prepared, presented, and served. Breakfast was superb, and the afternoon snack much appreciated. The spa facilities are luxurious.
We have two reservations. First, having arrived by train during a heavy rain, we had limited mobility, and stood around for half an hour waiting for someone to man the front desk. Then we learned we could not check in until 2 o'clock, although there did not seem to be an effort to check if our room was indeed ready an hour early. Early check-in on such an occasion (dripping wet) would have been an appreciated courtesy, again, IF the room were ready. Secondly, wifi service was spotty and frustrating, and not up to the standards one expects from a 4-star establishment. Even people on vacation need to pay bills on line, keep in touch with family, and make travel plan adjustments, and poor wifi makes this very difficult.
We would happily return another time -the town is wonderful, too- but wifi would need to be upgraded.

At 75 Euro per night, you get what you pay for. The place is clean and food is excellent, and you can enjoy all amenities that are offered. Swimming pool, sauna etc.. And if you travel by motorcycle, don't forget to park it in hotel's garage.

The hotel was cozy. Our room was very good with a sauna inside, tidy and well furnished following the local style. The staff was friendly and quite efficient. Breakfast was quite various. We appreciated a lot the bio honey presented with the honeycomb.
