Review of Grolla

Grolla
Ranked #1 of 163 Restaurants in Neutral Bay
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: US$ 4 - US$ 25
Description: Italian inspired with a modern and adventurous menu, where most of the dishes have an exotic element added in. We take inspiration from North West Italy Alps and Coastal area, where traditions assimilated not local ingredients to traditional recipes, and tiny narrow restaurants are adorned with paintings and decorations, like in the Cinque Terre and Val d’Aosta.

Small restaurant and operates by a talent owner. The food is excellent and I try the pork ribs. It is done as perfect as I love the smoke flavours.

The chicken wings portion is huge and lovely. We end up licking our fingers after the meal.

One thing to mention about the place, the art works are done by the owner and he is certainly a talent man..

Now that we’ve found this gem, I know we’ll become regulars. We’ve just moved into the area and have read reviews but hadn’t yet made it to Grolla. Boy are we glad we came! Just the two of us, we arrived at 7:15pm and there was a group of 13 already part way through their meal. Because of this, there was already a lot of atmosphere. Only 2 other couples came for the evening but because it’s a small intimate place it felt like good atmosphere through the whole evening.

Paolo is great, he explained everything on the menu, recommendations and all. He checked in regularly, his “partner in business and in life” (awwwww) Lek came out and said hello. It just felt very different to normal restaurants - genuine, authentic and friendly.

We were last to leave and by then they had put some music on in the background. Overall, lovely service, good conversation, a few apéritifs, reasonable prices, and we will be back for sure.

We went to Grolla for our anniversary and we're not disappointed. The food and service were excellent. Great friendly environment... great care and attention taken with the wine list and menu choices and our waiter had great knowledge of both. Looking forward to going back

Grolla is my latest discovery in Neutral Bay. I'd seen it passing by many times and impulsively booked a table for four of us one night to check it out. We were not disappointed. The food is simple yet delicious. If smoked kingfish on radish with citrus dressing sounds good, then read on .. It is I believe a traditional northern Italian cuisine, specialising in some lovely smoked dishes. Its licensed, and the wine list is all Italian - just a choice of 3 or 4 whips, 3 or 4 reds, some Moscato ... and of course there is Limoncello at the end if you so desire. The decor is simple and casual, with lots of art on the walls. Paolo runs the front of the house and Lek is the stunningly good chef in the kitchen. We have been back again, and this time had some different dishes - all delicious. Ive had two different pasta dishes - one tagliatelle with fungi, and on my second visit chose the tagliatelle with smoked kingfish and crab. Yum for both. My dining partners ate the smoked ribs and we all shared a delicate dessert or two.
