A large but beautiful rock built building (typical of the area).
Our room was spacious, with a balcony with a view.
Breakfast was also good - we were very satisfied by this place.
The town or Areopolis has great night life also.

The attractive Kastro Maini Hotel is constructed of stone with castle-like towers in the style for which the Mani is famous.
Family run, the hotel is situated about 10 minutes walk from the centre of Aeropoli, a typically Greek town, where there is a choice of tavernas.
The hotel boasts a lovely swimming pool which in June we have often had to ourselves. Free wi-fi is available around the pool and in the public areas.
The owners have limited English but make up for it with the warmth of their smiles.
Breakfasts are good with more variety than is found in most Greek hotels of this class.
The hotel is ideally situated for exploring the Mani. The Diros Caves are a short drive away. These are worth seeing but you will be lucky if you get a boatman who speaks English. Gythio, once the port of ancient Sparta is within easy driving distance. From here you can catch a ferry to Kythira or Crete.
In short, the hotel is recommended as an excellent base for exploring this unspoilt area of the Peloponnese. Ideally you want a room at the back of the hotel.

I stayed in this hotel in April. The hotel is very conveniently located near the center of Areopoli, which is like a "Capital" to Mani. I was amazed by the warm welcome and the family atmosphere. The rooms were clean and well-apointed, while we were blown by the breakfast with organic products and home-made sweets by Mrs. Valentina. The hotel is very cozy and a hot chocolate by the fireplace is a must. Kastro Maini was the best option as a base to explore the area of Mani. If you are looking to travel on a budget, this hotel is an excellent choice.

Room Tip: choose a back facing room. On a clear day, you will have a nice sea view!

A family owned hotel that will make you feel like you are apart of the family, very kind people, very good service, good traditional breakfast, large swimming pool, comfortable parking, rooms with balcony, large garden, traditional stone building, one minute walk from the center of Areopolis that has everything, 5 minutes with car from Limeni, 10 minutes with car from Diros Caves, 20 minutes with car from Maurovouni beach, 40 minutes with car from the southest point of mainland europe (Tainaro village). I will definitely visit this hotel again. Thank you

Mani, and especially Inner Mani, is not what foreign travellers think of when they hear the word "Greece". Yet, with this very well located hotel, you can go for it: when driving off the parking lot, you can enter the town (better do that walking, though), or choose one of the main roads that start from the crossing nearby. The staff, although very helpful and gentle, seemed a bit awkward, as if they weren't in the hotel business until very recently, and luckily we had a Greek speaking person in our little group. Other than that (meaning "not really orientated towards English speaking mass tourism... yet"), our stay was a very pleasant one, being received, each time we entered the building, as relatives. Since, at that moment, we were the only guests, they struggled a bit making the breakfast look as abundant as Peloponnese breakfasts tend to look, especially since the breakfast room clearly had been designed for much larger groups of people. But other than that, a very fine stay, and the very spot to be when planning to explore Inner Mani.
