Dayon Kamo Lodge
Reviewed 17 October 2015

Familiarity breeds contempt, they say.
My reservation was made and they had a weeks notice of my arrival. I arrived late at night. Clean drinking water was unavailable for purchase (though they delivered some later).
The first night, I killed 6 baby roaches about a cm each and 3 spiders, but not the large tarantulad kind. Still. There were lizard, droppings, dead insects everywhere in the bathroom.
There was no running water and the large pail was near empty, with what water in there dirty, moss growing green at the bottom of the pail. I skipped breakfast and did not have another meal after that. I told the owner, if you do not want visitors, just tell us, I can go to other lodgings. The bathroom was cleaned within an hour.
The beds - I had to dust off the large specks of whatever. Should I go again?

The proprietress came as a midwife, fell in love and has stayed here since, raising a family and building up a small country inn with 5 aircon rooms that sleep 3 each, the largest room sleeps 4., with a diner or cafe, a small bakery and general supply store selling everything from bikinis to batteries, some groceries, fresh bread and beer!
She and her son do a good job in a "town" where the largest building is a municipal hall, the town even has "a convention centre" on the same grounds a the town hall. There are a total of maybe 13 "guest" rooms in this "town".
Dayon Camo's diner will cook local dishes to order and will scout for fresh crabs, fish etc from the stalls or fisherfolk nearby. But you have to give them a few hours advance notice or be prepared to eat what they eat? We had b=noodles and local stew for lunch and ordered "fresh" for dinner - simple boiled crab and grilled fish - sweet delicious since it's at it's freshest!
Her lodge, like many parts of this municipality (some of would call it a county elsewhere) were badly damaged by supertyphoon Yolanda or Haiyan, which made sixth and final landfall on this island.
The area alternates between pristine beaches and mangroves (protected), nearby is great diving.
However every trip by car or boat needs to be arranged at least 2-3 hours if not a day ahead of time. Unpaved roads mean muddy mess when it rains.
This is remote, remote, remote! So it is simple simple simple.
And beautiful, unspoilt.
The best asset at the lodge - could be the reliable wif, or was it the refreshing cold beer, or halo halo (local shaved ice dessert) For now, only SMART phones work here.
