A Thrilling Experience

Review of Aranya Lodge
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 20 Jul 2013
We reached at 9.30 pm & got down from bus which was on its way to Jorhat. It was raining & power cut was there. Once bus left, it was dark & we were frightened. We were standing in front of one bar. One good Samaritan crossed the road with torch and called us in his small restaurant, he was one Mr. Ghosh. We were confused with the name of the lodge, we told Ghosh that it is Annanya not Arranya. He helped us a lot & arranged us to reach Aranya lodge by Jeep. Manager of the Lodge , another Ghosh is very nice person. We enjoyed a lot there. The place is good for for one day stay. You must go with big group not only one family. We will never forget the trip. We can write a story on this trip. Good bye.

Stayed in April 2013, with family including my 3.5 year daughter. Big property with ample open space and a small children's park. Children will enjoy the most. The staff, unlike most govt prorerties, are very helpful. Rooms are big, can't say about the cottages as I didin't opt for it. The rooms all have a small verandah attached, that adds to the convenience. Rooms are quite clean, but do not have intercoms. Room service is not available, but they were kind enough to serve it to our room as a special case, as I had two senior citizens with me. The food menu is a limited, but very much manageable. The Buffalo Bar adds to the value of the property. As a whole I was very satisfied with the cordial behaviour of the staff. Overall, recommended as a budget property.

We stayed at this hotel on 6th & 7th April. We had booked 2 rooms. The location of the hotel is excellent. First they showed us cottages. These cottages look very attractive from outside. However from inside, they are dated, with old tiles & furniture. We opted for delux rooms which have excellent view of jungle and some what renovated bathroom & tiles in rooms. The rooms are spacious. Being a govt. hotel, do not expect great service, then you will enjoy your stay for the very reasonable room rent. They will show you a hand written menu card which have very few items. You need to tell them to show printed menu card and items you need. Must order your food in advance or else you will not get the food. They also do not arrange elephant safari, which you need to do yourself. However the office is very closeby. Overall experience was good.

We stayed here in 2011. The location is great and is close to the highway. The staff is very helpful and the service is good. They also arrange trips to the forest. We were very happy to stay here and would highly recommend anybody to this place.

We traveled to Kaziranga on March '11. The location of this hotel is excellent since the starting point of the elephant safari for Western sector of the National Park is close by while the entry point for central sector is just at the opposite side of the road. Moreover, the approach road to this hotel from the highway is through a tea garden which adds to the beauty.

Inside the property there are sprawling lawns and trees. The main lawn has different play facilities for small children, though most of them aren't maintained well. The rooms are OK with basic amenities. We didn't expect a very good condition of room or service so our frustrations were much less. Very limited menu of foods and service befitting to any Govt. organisation. Barring one or two instances, never saw any smiling face among the staffs. Though basic, the foods were well cooked. This hotel has got very good parking facility.

However, at that price range the stay was OK. And, if one considers the benefit of staying close to the national park ....... its definitely good.

Room tip: Ask for the cottages, if they are available. They are better than the rooms in the main building
