The bedroom was beautifully decorated and a really good size so we enjoyed just sitting and chatting in it. Had a brilliant dyson fan which really helped with the heat. Wonderful bathroom with a huge shower and a lovely rollmop bath and a really high level of cleanliness. An amazing creative selection of snacks from the mini bar.

One of the nicest, most beautifully decorated places I have stayed in. Staff really friendly with excellent service in the restaurant and a great menu - delicious food.

Very nice renovation but room way too small, poorly lit, expensive, breakfast not included and not good, in the middle of nowhere and surprisingly poor service - initially we were ignored when we arrived. Loved the other places we stayed in the Cotswolds - such a different experience everywhere else. This place was our only mistake.

Such a lovely place! We had beautiful room 1 (tucked away in the thatch above the pub). The room was immaculate with a very comfy bed and a lovely selection of mini-bar treats. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. Well worth the money. would definitely recommend.

We stayed at The Artists residence as part of a tour of Restaurants with Rooms for two nights- the concept of which is very appealing but the execution rarely gets both aspects spot on. This place gets it spot on. We stayed in room 8 one of the converted shepherd huts and coming from Brighton we are used to Lovejoys masquerading as interior designers and banging on about boutique this and industrial chic that but the room manages to combine all these aspects with no little flair. The only exception for me were the overstuffed armchairs replete with stuffing bursting out was just plain uncomfortable. There is a well stocked and reasonably priced mini bar with the exception of jelly babies at £6 a bag !!!! The private patio is a real sun trap and very private.

The restaurant continues the theme with a lovely combination of upscale country pub with slightly macabre decor reflecting the tastes of the previous eccentric owner . The menu is not as eccentric but a good combination of New English cuisine and old favourites. Again well priced and an extensive wine list with our Nyetimber favourite an easy win!

The staff throughout are enthusiastic, knowledgeable and very friendly which is essential anywhere and couldn't be faulted. We did manage to explore the local area which is sprinkled with overpriced antique shops just like Brighton but some great independent art galleries but to be honest we could have easily just have stayed put quite happily.

We will definitely be back and plan to try the new property in Bristol soon. If you are looking for a great place to chill with good food and exceptional service you would be hard pushed to find better. Just loses a star on the armchairs and the bloody jelly babies !!!

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 8 with an in room free standing bath which fills quickly mercifully. Great patio sun trap and extremely comfortable bed.

We immediately felt at home and relaxed when we arrived here. Alex the boss gave us a warm, friendly welcome and showed us to our room (more about that later). The place is a lovely mix of old world and eclectic/eccentric modern touches. It's a very old inn that has been thoroughly renovated - and with, in our option, a very good eye for detail and comfort. We arrived just in time for supper on a Friday eve for a 2 night stay. The food is good, fresh and has obviously had some thought and skill put into it. Our meal was very enjoyable and the service from the team is excellent and friendly. We ate outside in the very charming garden and went into the dining room for desert and coffee.
Our room was the smallest in the place and still had bags of character and everything you could need and more. Lovely little touches everywhere and the shower was a joy to use. The bed was comfortable and a variety of pillows made it even more so. The only criticism is that it was very warm (however this was one of the hottest weekends of the year so far and they did supply a Dyson fan and the windows open fully).
Breakfast was spot on and the coffee and tea very good (a must in our book!). Again we had lovely smiley, genuinely warm service from everyone in the place.
Easy, relaxing, unfussy, unpretentious and though not the cheapest certainly not bad value for what you are getting. We would stay again (perhaps going for a larger room next time).
