“Great huts, right on the beach front unlike most others in Agonda.”
Reviewed 9 April 2012

This is the second time we have stayed at Madhu's huts and we are already considering another trip. Agonda beach is a haven for those wanting to relax in the sun on a quiet beach away from the crowds of Northern Goa or neighbouring Palolem. There are plenty of huts to choose from in Agonda but only a few of the nicer hut have a beach front location, Madhu's has a clear advantage over many. Don't be fooled by some clever photography on other websites! Some of the neighbouring huts, Agonda White Sands, Chattai, Jardin Mer etc all have lovely chilled out area's with drapes, big cushions and are great places to eat, drink & generally chill out but their huts are behind the bar / restaurant area and are set back off the beach. Why opt for a beach hut and then settle for one behind the restaurant ??
The staff at Madhu's are friendly but their English is a little limited, although we didn't have any problems ordering or having a laugh with them towards the end of our stay. Shekhar (the owner) is also very friendly and always made the effort to learn your name, say hello and check that the Madhu boys are delivering good customer service. Nothing is too much for Shekhar, our hut didn't have a washing line when we arrived so I asked if we could have some string, a few minutes later I noticed a couple of the boys were busy back at our hut erecting a line for us. The same can be said for when we bought a ball to play with on the beach, a couple of minutes after we had bought it the boys were on the beach putting up a volleyball net ! I think this gave them an excuse to have a game some evenings when the temperature had dropped.
The food at Madhu's is also first class, Shekhar has recently invested in a coffee machine and now serves very good cappuccino's, espresso's etc throughout the day. This is probably the only real coffee in Agonda and many people during our stay made the trip to Madhu's just for this.
Shekhar and the team are very welcoming and are open to suggestions on improving the huts to meet tourists needs, they have recently made large sofa area's at the front of the bar area and are more than happy to let you play your own iPod.
This is a great set up, the huts have proper mattresses unlike may others huts and Shekar has now invested in hot electric showers. (All have electricity, flushing WC, mirror and bedside table, shelves etc) They can only be described as basic but they have the essentials and most importantly a fantastic location.
Great team, great location and a place I am sure we will visit time and time again

Shekhars' email address shekhar1303@sify.com ~~~~~~ they can also arrange a transfer from the airport no matter what time you arrive and will happily stop at a cash point so that you don't have to worry about the money exchange in the airport. Its around 1000 rupees but the taxi's outside the airport will try to charge you more.

Room Tip: Madhu's do have a few cheaper huts behind those which are sea facing. Please make sure you chec...

We stayed at Madhu for the first week of our holiday in Goa, and couldn't have asked for anything more! We had one of the front huts (the orange one on the end!) and it was wonderful to be able to get out of bed in the morning, walk out of the front door and be on the beach. The bed was HUGE and had a mosquito net, there were also cupboards and shelving for storage (although we mainly lived out of our case!), and the shower/wet room with toilet was clean and had hot water. Shekhar, Tipu and their staff were all wonderful, friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble for them. The food in the restaurant was great, and on our friends' last night we'd asked Shekhar for lobster - he ended up getting us one each and it was the best, freshest (and probably cheapest!) lobster I've ever tasted.

One morning we were having a swim in the sea and to our surprise a dolphin jumped and swam past us - it was magical! All in all, Agonda is a truly beautiful place, and we wouldn't stay anywhere else but Madhu.

Room Tip: The 5 front huts have the best view, and hot water, but there are also 3 slightly cheaper huts behin...

This is the fourth successive year that we have stayed with Shekhar and Tipu. Big changes this season. Hits are more sturdily built, new mattresses, better furniture and constant hot water. Readers of these pages will know that Madhus is not a luxury resort, but to be fair, the boys have gone out of their way to ensure that the huts are as comfortable and welcoming as possible. As always, everything is spotlessly clean.

Situated right on one of the best beaches in Goa it is literally yards to the water. Each hut has a verandah, with cane furniture. Ideal for sipping morning coffee or an evening sundowner, with an ocean soundtrack for atmosphere.

The (licensed) restaurant is as good as ever, with fresh fish from Tipu's own boat featuring large on the menu. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available and this year, there is even free wi-fi. The restaurant also serves as something of a local meetup point and non residents are especially welcome.

Most important is the friendly atmosphere. Shekhar, Tipu and the staff will go out of their way to ensure that everyone has a memorable and pleasant experience at Madhus.

We are already planning for next year.

We stayed at Madhu for four nights. One night we stayed at the cottage without actual sea view but managed to switch it to a sea view hut for the last three nights. These cottages were just built and were located near the Sandy feet restaurant, but the Madhu restaurant was not far either. Because of the fact that they were new, the cottage was without any marks of previous use. Although the hut was quite basic (like they all are) this was still way better than some other huts we had seen fex at Palolem beach. There were huge bed with spring mattresses with spotless, clean cotton satin linen and mosquito net and ceiling fan above the bed. Hot water was also available. There was also a very nice terrace with sofas and a view to the beach. It was an excellent spot to watch what cows, crows and dogs were doing at the beach early in the morning.
Even if it was a peak season the beach was still quiet and nice. It was a perfect place to spend the last days of our honeymoon in India.

Madus Restaurant has decent food, although the menue is not overwhelmingly creative. But what they offer, they do well. Also salads can be eaten here, no problems or worries about hygienics here.
I loved the big lounge sofas in the front area of the restaurant, where you can spend hours for reading and letting the day pass by at ease.
