This is the heart of a great country. A short highway drive just outside of Zagreb. Very easy to navigate. Na Okic is indeed a private forest oasis. Surrounded by nature, an orchard of different cherry trees, apple trees, berries and herbs. An historic cottage that is up to date. You sleep in a loft overlooking the grounds. The perfect place to start your vacation.
I cannot begin to thank Zrinka and Ivan, our hosts, for their hospitality. They speak wonderful English, most Croatians speak quite a bit. We are in our 50's and traveled. Never before have we been cared for so well. Our communication started way before we even got to Croatia. I was worried but Zrinka eased all my fears. She answered all my texts no matter what is was, while still in America. She greeted us with a hug and Sljivovica! Eggs, milk, homemade jam, butter and cheeses. My bags did not show up for 8 days, we stayed there for 4, but Zrinka continued to call and make sure I got my bags, even directing the driver to my apartment hundreds of miles away.
Ivan, on his day off work, arranged and took us to visit the wineries in Plesvica. Minutes down the road, the sparkling wine region. We only mentioned it and it was done! The sparkling wine is amazing at Kolaric wineries as was our hostess, Ivana. We stocked up on their pink and white sparkling wines made in the traditional "champagne "style. She popped open a whole bottle for the two of us and sat for over an hour chatting.
After, Ivan took us to a beautiful restaurant perched on the side of the mountain looking over fields of grapes. The food was delicious. He scheduled Ivancic wineries but we drank a little too much too early. So get your tours along with a stay at Na Okic!
We loved Na Okic and these young people so much we visited them and their son Pan on the way out of the country. Pan is an amazing little boy who speaks English as well as any child in the US years older than him.
So no worries, book. We will definitely be back, SOON!
