First of all, we read numerous reviews before booking, so we went into this trip with a very open mind. We booked with another couple, and we both booked Honeymoon Villas - Imperial Club level via Transat.
Our flight down was quick, and easy. We were quickly picked up at the airport, and taken to the resort (less than 45 minutes on the bus). There was some confusion with the Transat rep at the airport - as there was a wedding coming in at the same time - to the same resort. We were all put on a large bus - and then we were all told to get off and get on a small bus instead (We had to hold luggage from falling on our heads because there were not enough seats/luggage room) - and the wedding party then got the big bus for private transportation; which was less than half full. This was clearly not how it was originally supposed to be - and it made the drive there quite uncomfortable.
We arrived, and were greeted with Rum Punch, and Chesley at the front was quick to help us get one of the two rooms right away (one room was ready - the other was not). Chesley got us to our room via shuttle, and even gave us a number he could be reached at if we needed anything at all - WONDERFUL is the only way to describe this man. He was our first point of contact at the hotel, and he really started it off on the right foot!
The other room was supposed to be directly under ours, and it was "almost ready" when we got the first room... we went and had a bite to eat, and walked around for a bit and came back - still not ready. Went for drinks - came back again - still not ready. Went back to our room, and then walked back about an hour later. Then we were informed there were problems with that room (that it was not going to be used as it could not be repaired that day), so the people we were traveling with were going to be moved to another room instead. This took another hour. We asked them to ensure our rooms were close to each other. They said they would. When they finally got their room it was the furthest room in the honeymoon villas from our room. Then as we were getting back from reception - we saw them checking someone else into the room below us - the room that "Had Issues"... we were not impressed by this.
We booked Imperial Club - and it was supposed to have a bunch of inclusions - we did get our "coupon" book - waste of paper in my opinion. We did not get slippers, or robes, or a welcome plate of Fruit, or our bottle of rum as included. In fact we could not figure out what extras were actually included with the Transat Imperial club - and no one could tell us either. It was a WASTE of extra money.
The room was semi clean when we checked it. There were the prior tenant's initials in the glass doors - and guess what - they stayed there all week long. Out of the 7 days, our room was cleaned 4 times. When it was cleaned, it was just the bed that was made, and tub was cleaned. I was not impressed with the maid service, and even less so when I overheard our maid using "nicknames" for us. I guess she didn't realize I was upstairs when she was outside. Our tip at the end of the trip took this into account. She could have had an amazing tip, and instead it was minimal.
Food - Food in the buffets was actually fantastic! We were very pleased. We did a few a la carts (Jamaican - Try the curry spring rolls!!!), Steak, Mexican and Italian. All were nice, quick and fresh.
Beaches, we were very happy with the beaches. Clean, plenty of chairs. Private beaches - not like Negril - where you are bugged by merchants.
Pool was clean - but cold.
Loved the live music everywhere - by the pool, beach, restaurants - it was a nice change from the resorts that play the same music over and over again.
Shows were meh... but the Infinity Bar was amazing each night. We had one waitress at the Infinity bar who was AMAZING... I wish I could remember her name - but she was so good at her job I couldn't even remember my own name by the end of each night.
The Grounds were fantastic, and we spoke with numerous gardeners who all worked very hard.
The resort is getting a bit run down, and could use some work - but based on how large the resort is, and how many people are there on a daily basis, I understand how this can be difficult.
Would we return??? Yes we would go back again, but it would not be my first choice. The resort is LARGE, and there is a lot of walking. It is not accessible for someone who has a disability, or is older. There are a lot of stairs. I would book the Honeymoon villa again for the privacy (even though it is so far away from everything), but I would never recommend Imperial Club to anyone as it is a rip off with no value.
We also booked a day trip via the hotel trip store - next time I would go via another agent - the bus was disgusting, and full of ants. We were taken to a market (that was not advertised as part of the trip) where we felt forced to buy items.
So to conclude - the resort was lovely, and within our expectations. We really enjoyed our time in Jamaica. Transat did not live up to their side of the deal. I would book again, but I would not go with Transat or Imperial Club.
