Great resort

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 2 Mar 2014
Just returned from a holiday at the Lady Hamilton Resort and Spa in Jamaica and we really enjoyed our week there however there are a couple of points that we were'nt too happy about. the first being our room, nothing particularly wrong with the room but the smell was horrendous,it was that bad it woke us at 4am.The smell I am talking about was sewage/drains and it really was bad, spoke to reception and they agreed to change our room so no complaints about that. So people avoid room 3704 like the plague. The next complaint is a lot of the staff expect to be tipped, dont get me wrong, I dont mind tipping but when it's expected to get better service I dont think that is acceptable. However on the whole we had a good time, all the staff work very hard and as far as I'm aware for very little wages which would probably explain the expected tipping. The food was fantastic, so much choice and they have theme days for different countries. The steak house is fantastic aswell or be it a bit disorganised, we had to wait nearly 2 hours to get in after we booked,(you book by room number) but once in the food was delicious. Now a little bit about our First Choice rep Hyacinth, she is brilliant and so much fun, she made everyone welcome on arrival and is very informative (yeah man) those are her favourite words by the way. Lawrence at the beach bar was so much fun aswell, always had a smile for everyone, not forgetting Kevin who made my husband a "cocktail" for a sore throat, don't know what was in it but it did the trick. All in all a good holiday apart from the 2 little problems I mentioned.

My wife and I just got back from getting married here, all was great for our wedding.
As for our room it smelt like urine and crap coming from toilet(disgusting) toilet didn't flush properly. We reported it and nothing happened. Chairs on balcony are plastic.
The restaurants are good, the servers in restaurants are pleasant, all the a la carte's we ate at where very good. Buffet was not such a good experience because if you didn't tip you would wait long for coffee or whatever else needed.
Pool was awesome. Bar near volleyball court was good as long as you tipped. I didn't like how the beach had no bars on them, the one beach you have to walk two flights of stairs to get a drink and don't go after 5:30 cause you won't get one. This one made me angry.
Disco bar don't even bother going in, guys working are arrogant, and music is so loud that you can't talk and so dark.
      Spa was good.
This is second time in Jamaica and it will be the last on behalf of the arrogance of guy workers.
First time we went to sandals montego bay and everything was great. I guess I set the bar to high.

Hi all, My family and I have just returned from 2 weeks 13th to 27th Feb at the Lady Hamilton side of Grand Palladium. It was great from start to finish. We upgraded to Premium Class on the plane which was well worth it as the extra leg room and additional extras on board made the 11 hr flight more comfortable.

Check in was priority as was going through security, Transfer from airport about 40mins and yes every one is looking for a tip but as a hard working Brit I will tip as and when good service is received and we found this worked better.

The check in process was quick and we had asked for at least 1 room on the ground floor as elderly parents with reduced walking mobility, we got all 3 rooms on the ground floor and we wanted a block close to the lobby and entertainment and food and we was in villa 26 this was the closest to everything thanks for that.

The infinity pool with the swim up bar was great and the kids went up and got cocktails as and when they wanted. The pool is big enough to loose yourself for hrs and the kids.

The food was great we ate in the buffet for the first 3/4 days then discovered the fish restaurant which was great then we was hooked on the service as it was fine dining on a more personal level than the buffet which lacked in service sometimes. The best restaurant was the Steak one The kids had t- bone the size of their faces! the next best was Indian then Chinese worst was Mexican.

We hired a MPV from the airport for 6 days and travelled the island on our own everyone we met was kind but wanted something usually for nothing, but if your strong and either decline or say no thank you and go about your day their fine.

There is NO chip and pin when using credit cards so DONT we heard tales while there of over charging and double charging at the tourist hot spots like Dolphin cove, Negril, Bob Marley museum, Dunns river and Ochi Rios.

The hotel will change cash for you at a good rate. The hotel shop is a rip off sooo over priced the are charging $7us for a Sneaker bar we needed this as a chocolate loving wife needed a fix half way through. All sun cream and mosquito repellent take with you and then take extra its not worth paying $25us for a item you can get from boots for £6.

Every day 1 restaurant is reserved for adults only so take note of this to avoid a long walk and disappointment. There is no reservation system so get there early we got there at 5:30pm every day and was always greeted with a table for 8 straight away, on our exit a few hrs later the queues were long and people were getting stressed with the waiting.

The beaches were great, sun set was the best for snorkelling but go to sports direct and get Hot Tuna beach shoes they were £4 and well worth it for the rocky parts and climbing Dunns river.

We will recommend the hotel to all and welcome any questions any one might need answering.

Hope this review helps and you will not be disappointed by going to this hotel thanks for reading ED

Room tip: Villa 26 27 and 28 are closest to the main lobby and food the further away you are the more you will need the shuttle buggy to ferry you around

3rd time to Jamaica...1st time at the Palladium...and we will be back. What a great vacation. Our previous two trips were to Sandals. In our opinion...if this hotel had a long beach, it would be a 6 Star. We have travelled to seven other tropical spots, several times over.
Quick and organized at the airport. Short drive to the resort. What a beautiful sight when we got there with large colonial pillars, water fountains and fish in the huge lobby. A great junior suite with a king bed, sitting area, tub and shower. Third floor was a good idea as we ate way to much. We booked Imperial so we got a few perks which was a nice treat. We dined at all the restaurants with no complaints about any food including the buffet. YES...we tipped...all the time morning and night...because the staff deserved it and we were treated great and we always treated the staff with "Respect'. The pool was huge and places for everyone, young and old...swim up bar, beds in the water, shallow entry for children, water aerobics, pool volleyball, aqua cycles and jet pool. All of the staff works very hard and long hours...and yet they were always smiling and singing. We went on some tours and found them to be at a good value...being our third time in Jamaica, we still found more to explore of the beautiful country. Deep tissue massage at the Spa had us near tears, but exactly what we needed.
My husband(52) and myself(46) are not the type to complain...we are on vacation and just take things as they come, be spontaneous and have the best time in the tropics away from the brutal Canadian cold.
Our first night was Friday and "Jamaican Night" of course to the Infinity bar we went. To our surprise we saw the happiest bartenders we have ever seen at any resort. Smiling, singing dancing, flipping bottles...we went every night after that. Hello to all our friends...we miss you all...Sean, Carrie, Kevon, Chavoy, and or course Michael Spence(Happy Feet)and all our "Buddies" at the bar.
We had a FABULOUS vacation and so much FUN with the activities provided by the POP staff.
Every day there was yet another game to partake in... drinking games, bingo, trivia, belly flop, cannon ball, volleyball, darts, dancing, patwa class, nightly shows...we did it all...never a dull moment. Thank you POP friends for so much fun...we hope to see you all soon---Princess, Sunshine, Happy, Zena, Alicia, Kitty Twa, Weazy, Pitbull, Tugg-Ras, Spoon, Triple X.
      Also many more... Avagaye(towles), Kenisha(tours), Petula(spa), Alvin(Chukka tours), Brenda(security), Sean(coconuts/gardens, Junior/Paul/Kelly(Lifeguards), Roy Lawrence/Andrea(La Brisas), Pinook(photos), Sharon(maid).

We enjoyed our week somewhat (the resort is gorgeous), however, not a lot to do! Only the one stage for shows at night, not any planned activities (aside from volleyball by the pool), the kids area is a sad excuse for entertainment with nothing going on there and staff who can't or don't speak the language. We couldn't get change anywhere for smaller tips--very unco-operative nor helpful. Staff very seldom smiled and greeted salutations. The food however, is excellent. The beach is coral, therefore, rocky and small. Not conducive to young families. No line-up at the bars tho'. They do not serve select cocktails (grand marnier was frowned upon) for a night cap.
The gym is stifling warm, no air and small with most of the equipment non functioning or ancient.
I was incredibly disappointed in this resort. Would recommend it for a beautiful wedding but then "go home" or elsewhere for entertainment. Spa was way to pricey for young child's hair wash and comb out = near $80.00! However, do not miss the "jerk chicken" on the beach. To die for!

Room tip: We were across from the gym building=second floor

My husband and I visited in Feb. for a long (5 night) weekend. Landed in Montego Bay and after a 45 minute cab ride we were in paradise !! The hotel is just beautiful. Check in was quick and easy - our room was far from the center of the hotel and we asked to be changed. Our second room - building 36 had no ocean view and was on the 3rd floor - very disapointing so we again asked to be changed. Nothing could be done that first night, but the next day we were moved to building 26, next to the pool, first floor suite with a balcony facing the ocean - it was spectacular.

Lots of food choices - buffet was excellent for a hotel feeding so many people. Tried the Chinese, Steak House, Italian and Mexican - all were fine.

Choice of beaches - waves, no waves, adult etc. and 2 gorgeous pools. Only negative at the beaches was that there were not enough lounges and no one to help get more.

Best Couples Beach Massage ever !!

We never left the hotel, no restaurants or shopping within walking distance which was fine for us.
