Kaslo is an extraordinary place and certainly the restaurants are of a quality unexpected in such a small town. It's a great place to visit for a nice dinner. When my mum and I went out for a post-bedtime aperitif, we went to the 'new Mexican place' and I was pretty much blown away. The food was extremely tasty and sophisticated, the margaritas phenomenal, and the decor polished and pretty -- a great revitalization of a heritage building tucked away around the corner from Front Street. We sat at the bar and whiled away a nice grownup evening. It was a wonderful surprise and I can't wait to go again.
Due to the polish and sophistication of the food, it's definitely not where I'd take the kids which is fine -- they wouldn't appreciate it and it's a bit costly to have them pick at a nacho chip. Makes a great night for grownups though. Date night?
