Warning - if you must be connected to the outside world and on the go - steer clear! This amazing place is a rarity in today's world - isolated and insulated, you almost believe time has stood still. No televisions (wifi is very slow so unplug for a true immersion in peace). Staff is attentive and fabulous. They anticipate your needs, make you feel so welcome. With only 36 suites, there won't be chaos like many big resorts nowadays. The pool is great and I had it all to myself. The bed and sheets are the most comfortable I've slept on, and I've been to a lot of 5 star hotels. It's a bit off the beaten path, but that's the point, if you end up here, which I highly recommend.

Room Tip: There's not a bad room in the place.......

This place knocked it out of the park in terms of customer service. From start to finish, everything was five start service and quality. They have great day tours around the local villages and temples and they go all out with producing quality, local food at a very high standard. We went with a toddler, and they had a kids room for arts and crafts, but this is definitely an adult setting, with a full packed adult activity plan. Highly recommend the Borobudur Sunrise Tour and Tobacco Field Picnic with Butler; it's very picturesque with the mountains and hotel backdrop ... the ONLY way to Swee Yogyakarta

Overlooking Borobudur, the world's largest Buddhist sanctuary, in the lush heartland of Central Java. Amanjiwo, meaning peaceful soul, is a haven of tranquility and definitely among the best Aman resorts and one of my favourite with Amangiri.

We have spent 4 days here. Upon landing, we were greeted by the resort staff who whisked us directly from the plane to a airport private lounge, where we waited for them to gather our checked bags and escort us to the car. The car itself could have be better however the staff, were very helpful, friendly and attentive, we received lemongrass scented towels, and we were offered a choice of cookies, crackers, water, soda, and beer.

The unspoilt setting of the hotel hidden amongst the rice field on a hillside, is even more magnificent than in pictures.

The room is well appointed, bathroom feature an outdoor soaking tubs at the back, and a thatched-roof pavilion with a daybed and small pool at the front. No dental kit was provided but after request we promptly received it.

Food and Beverage are very good, with wide selection and very filling portions, served at the main building, where we really enjoyed the breathtaking view or at the beautiful and secluded poolside.

There are plenty of activities that are not to be missed, among the best are of course the mystical Buddhist Temple sites of Borobudur and Prambana. The sunrise in Borobudur is particularly wonderful.

Amanjiwo is a memorable experience and a perfect destination for couples.

I particularly liked :

The Unique Feel.
The Magnificent Architecture by Ed Tuttle one of America's best architect.
The Food and the Flexibility of the Chef for Cooking Dishes on Request.
The Resort Location.

Amanjiwo is about 1.5 hrs car ride from Jogjakarta. It is situated over a huge ground on a hill and it is an amazingly tranquil place for honeymoon and retreat. The staff are highly trained and the food is pretty good.

The hotel offers various activities, some are free, some are for a fee. I enjoyed the sunrise Borobudur trip and cycling to the nearby village. We had a lot of fun in the village, looking at village life, watching pottery and tofu making. To truly enjoy the hotel and the neighborhood, a 2 nights stay is recommended.

The temple looking main entrance is visually impressive. Rooms were good. Pool was not bad.

But for REAL luxury enthusiasts, please note that this 5 Star Luxury Hotel only has 1 restaurant. Plus, this restaurant is very small, has no air-conditioning whatsoever and a very limited and basic menu, considering it is a USD 1,000 per night (average) hotel.

It is the best luxury hotel in Yogyakarta though. However, it lags behind other luxury hotels of the same price in Bali or other parts of Indonesia. This, I think is because Amanjiwo lacks competition in Yogyakarta. All it takes is a Mulia or Bvlgari to set up a shop here and Amanjiwo will start to step up its game with at least a restaurant with air-con, better menu, better service staff and more friendly security guards.
