Reviewed 12 January 2009

We stayed here for one night in the only room that was buit - it was in the middle of nowhere so no escape!

We phoned this place and booked a room for two nights while travelling around Kerala. We'd seen it in the Rough Guide so thought it would be OK. Obiously the Rough Guide visited quite a while ago.

They told us it would be 6000R on the phone, a lot higher than the RG said but it's peak season and prices do go up a lot. It also said it had a pool and a swimming area in the lake it faces so thought we deserved a couple of nights of luxury midway through our trip.

When we arrived the reception was in a marque type tent and there was some building going on but this was outside the walls of the main resort. We checked in and were told that we should go see the room and then if we liked it give them a deposit.

The room itself was very nice and more high end than i ever expected (or would have booked) in India. It really didn't feel like we were in India any more which was no good thing.

We gave the guy 50% of the first night's rate. This ploace is in the middle of nowhere (20k of winding roads from Kollam) and our taxi had left so we were stuck here for the night.

We looked around and the pool wasn't finished and if i had wanted to swim in the lake i would have had to do it in front of 50 builders who were still in the process of finishing the other rooms. Our's was the only one finished.

There was nothing to do, no cannoe to take out on the lake to explore the backwaters etc. We really felt we'd wasted 24 hours of our holiday and a lot of money.

On the plus side the room serice staff (there was no restaurant or anywhere locally to go for food) were great and the food nice. We spoke to one who said the resort should be finished in 3 weeks - so why had they let us book a room before it's finished?

We checked out the next morining and were told that the rate had been dropped from 8000R to 6000R for us. We had no choice but to pay this and the expensive taxi they organised for us as it was very remote.

Maybe it will be nice when it's finished but it will still have no personality and have so little resemblance to the India that you've come to experience that you may as well be anywhere in the world.
