What an amazing experience we had with MRTO... we did an overnight raft and fly from McCarthy and camped on a pristine site on the banks of the Nizina River... and then had a spectacular scenic flight by bush plane back to McCarthy from the junction of the Nizina and Chitina Rivers. Our guides, Sam and Ethan, were amazing... taking us down just 24 hours after the jokulhlaup (ice dam break) on a very fast river! I was also particularly impressed by the extent to which MRTO went to leave no trace of our stay in these pristine areas. Despite very warm weather, we were glad to be in drysuits (MRTO is the only company that provides these) as the water is absolutely frigid and we stayed warm and DRY even after a few dousings. We also did a spectacular glacier hike with Kassie who helped us get some incredible photos as we explored the Root Glacier on a picture perfect day. Thanks to Nik and the entire staff at MRTO for making our stay in McCarthy so memorable!
