Wow, what can one say about this memorial. It reminds us all of a very painful event that took place back on September 2, 1998. Swissair Flight 111 crashed and all 229 passenger and crew perished as the plane crashed 8 km from the shore., The crash site was 8 km from the shore, not far from Peggy’s Cove in the South Shore region. How very sad for all the families who lost loved ones. When leaving Peggy's Cove, turn left on the highway and watch for signs. We found the sign easily. There is a winding walking trail that leads you from the parking lot to the site. Very peaceful setting and definitely worth a stop.

I’ve stopped here to reflect on life and death. The view is spectacular. It’s a hard spot to notice driving by so keep you eyes peeled.

This memorial reminds us of the painful tragedy. The memorial itself is nicely done. But heartbreaking to think of the 229 lives lost to this tragedy. So painful.

If you are visiting Peggy’s Cove I would suggest stopping at the Swissair memorial. There is a brief trail to hike before you arrive at the memorial. The memorial is modest and the three small granite benches offer a quiet place to sit and reflect. There is a beautiful and sweeping view of Peggy’s cove. A few minutes of additional research on Wikipedia will put this disaster and the impact it had on the community in perspective.

Stark along the rocks this simple memorial is beautiful. There is a placard at the trail head, then a nice walk out towards the sea and monument. Being a coat !
