First, let me say that Donnatella is a very hard-working, lovely and attentive hostess. She speaks almost no English but one of her bartenders does. It helps if you can speak Italian.

The accommodations are beautiful, up-to-date and spotlessly clean. The furnishings are new and comfortable. Their restaurant is very nice and the evening music and "finger foods" make for a very enjoyable evening.
The unfortunate thing is that it is located right on the famous Stairway, about 2/3 of the way up. While this gives you a fabulous view and a unique environment, it also comes with 3 BIG negatives:

FIrst, the stair steps are very steep and the rise is higher than normal. What this means is that the "step up" part of each step, as you climb up or down, is very steep and incredibly hard on your knees. ( Young and old alike find them difficult!) Multiply that by the 143 ( I think) steps !

Secondly, because you are ON the Stairway, there is no parking nearby. Although Donnatella will graciously find you as you are driving around LOST in Caltagirone, trying to figure out where you are and where you are going ( and you WILL be lost), and even though she navigates you to a parking area, you still have to haul your luggage up or down those steps. That is when the beauty of the Stairway is overcome by the exhaustion of climbing them with that rolling luggage that can no longer be rolled, and you learn the true meaning of the Italian word "porca miseria"!

Thirdly, the Stairway becomes a hangout for teens and young adults at night. Combine that with the music from their restaurant, and the fact that many are having a great time drinking and singing right out side your balcony........

As much as I loved this place and appreciated the hostess, I would probably choose a quieter, more easily accessible location next time.
