Had a pint in the beer garden with the sun shining, looking out over the hills to the sea. Fantastic location, friendly staff, relatively cheap beer. Lockdown is over. Possibly the best beer garden in the country.

Stayed Monday to Friday in room 10 , room was spotless, bed comfortable, shower cubicle and toilet immaculately clean. The restaurant area where breakfast is served is also spotless , the excellent, and unlimited breakfast is supervised very capably by Ian, who seems to do quite a bit in and around the hotel. The Club, Bar area , however , seems to be quite the opposite, for example , we turned up at about 9.20 on the Wednesday night, and , before we were asked what we would like to drink , we were told that I have a sore throat , have one then I will close . Strangely, when we returned at 11.30 she and her friend were sitting in the bar with the lights off.

Room tip: Rooms above the bar/club have the potential to be noisy.

This is a big Victorian working men’s club with a large hotel. Clean, comfortable and cheap; think good student accommodation. If you’re on a walking holiday, it’s just the ticket. (I suspect if you were on holiday you’d want a bit more cosseting.)
