“Don't think about it, just book it!”

Have just spent a glorious two weeks at this villa, (Horta da Avozinha, which translates as Granny's Garden). It was a lovely villa, in a glorious countryside setting, in a little village called Espiche, just outside Praia da Luz. The accommodation (all on one level) comprises of two bedrooms (one has one double bed and overlooks the pool, the second (quite a dark room) has a double and a single bed and is slightly set back and overlooks trees and flowers, two bathrooms - towels are supplied - bath/hand/pool per person - (both bathrooms have a bath with shower over - the non en-suite bathroom has no natural daylight as it is at the rear of the house so is fairly dark) , a large lounge and a large kitchen (with electric hob/oven/microwave/toaster/kettle/coffee machine/large fridge freezer/well stocked with crockery/glasses/cutlery/utensils etc). There is an outside pool with an outside shower for use before swimming (the pool is approx 3ft and goes down to 6ft, nice and clean and can be heated if required @ 150 euros a week - also don't have your highlights done before you go or bring new white swimwear as mine did go green from the water) and grassed garden area, complete with sun loungers. There are plenty of seating areas - a table and chairs in the kitchen, a large wooden table and chairs in the lounge, a table and chairs outside which is in the sun in the morning and in the shade in the evening and a wooden picnic bench. There are two washing machines and a tumble drier situated in a nearby shed, and four large washing lines and pegs. An amazing welcome pack is supplied, lots of goodies - washing powder, olive oil, coffee, biscuits, butter, jam, eggs, wine, crisps, bread, teabags, sugar, milk, bananas, matches, ham, cheese, orange juice, bin bags, washing up liquid and washing up cloth - wow! Car hire was easy at Faro airport and directions supplied were fantastic. There are supermarkets a short drive away (Baptista in Praia da Luz, and a large Intermarche at Lagos and Vila do Bispo).
There is an orchard with lemon, orange, fig, avocado and lime trees and you are welcome to pick fruit. There are three friendly geese in the orchard and they got to know when we were around and would come to the fence to be fed. There is an enclosure with chickens, again friendly and run towards you for food, even the birds in the trees come down for crumbs. In the grounds there is a play area for the children, swings and a slide, basketball hoop and a climbing frame, a hot tub (chargeable @ 40 euros for 2 people for an hour, and then 10 euros for each additional person) and seating area. There is also a pond (unfenced) with fountain in the garden, complete with fish and frogs, (who croak in the evening!). There is an outside brick bbq and outside oven. You have your own car parking space.
Maid service is provided twice a week (there is an iron and ironing board, floor mop and broom for your use in the villa) Thursday and Saturday mornings, and the pool man/gardener and his lovely dog, come in on a Saturday morning.
There is a tv and dvd player, lots of dvds and books are available in the lounge. There is also a very handy rechargeable torch. If you are a budding artist, there is also a 'guest gallery' where, if you're lucky you could have your picture displayed!
Theresa and Jose who own the villa are lovely, and could not have been more helpful or friendly. They were around some of the time we were there, and it was lovely to have them there and to see them with their grandchildren. The skies were brilliant blue, the sun was hot, and we really enjoyed our holiday here.
