“Dona Sylvia - a must for travellers”
Reviewed 21 August 2012

Beautiful manicured lawns, courteous staff, lip smacking food, private beach, huge clean pool and plenty of activities. A must for people wanting to enjoy the warmth & hospitality of Goa. Spent 3N/4D at this fantastic hotel and needless to say, I will be returning to the land of warmth, fun and hospitality and DEFINITELY to Dona Sylvia.

Room Tip: Take the rooms, closer to the beach.

We were a group of 6 adults , all cousins at Dona Sylvia from Aug15th to 18th 2012, We had a great time inspite of our late checkin at 4pm, we had hot lunch served and a smooth pickup from the airport (Complimentary as part of the package). The Rooms were excellent choice Beach facing and lawn facing Room No:85A and 86A. Ideal setting for our freedom party. Though the rooms was not too spacious for 3 adults with an additional cot added, the patio or balcony made the stay more relishing with a round table and 6 chairs provided in a banquet style.
The food B'fast/ lunch and dinner was all served at Sea Gull restaurant (Being Offseason) and the spread was great. Relaxed timings and the resort full of amenities like a great Sauna, Jacuzi, steam room and spa facilities. The games being pool volleyball, badminton, tennis and football madeup for all the macho games.

The Amalia Bar served complimentary drinks between 6pm to 8pm and also served as the entertainment center with live shows singing, dance etc and Live band music. The villas are spread out (171 of them) with lots of private place among guests and we never had to stand in a queue for any amenities.

The checkin and check out were smooth, though the red band hadcuff sounded odd, it made sense when the resort staff served us by a mere sight of the band on all the three days without enquiring again n again -- which package or which room number etc, thus made us more relaxed.

Finally awesome beach can be accessed by a short walk of a couple of minutes through a lovely pathway, Pristine white sand beach -Cavellosim, far better than the North Goa beaches. Beach is shallow and we can venture out into the sea for a long time, we have services of water sports provided by Jack in the sea during season time and in the Sal river during non season time.

The pool should be one of the biggest and among the south goa properties, Cleaned quite often and attended by pool staff from 7am to 7pm every day. All in all a great proprty visit all through the year. The great sounding Benny- The master Chef was the perfect hostand he would give snippet of advise and recommend what to do. We had a great time !

Room Tip: Choose Beach facing rooms no 83A, 84A, 85A and 86A are excellent view

Love the place. Private beach access makes the resort. My first beach resort I had stayed in but still love the place. Stayed here few times. Food is one of the biggest plusses.
Cant imagine going to Goa and staying anywhere else

The last time we stayed at Dona Sylvia was March 2011 but as it was our 5th consecutive visit I think it's about time I did a review. This all inclusive hotel is in Southern Goa which I understand is a bit more laid back than the Northern resorts. From our very first visit we found it to have a lovely welcoming atmosphere;it's not 5 star but the accommodation is perfectly fine for a simple beach holiday. My only word of caution is not to accept the bungalow right behind the back up generator (we think it was number 13 or 14)- your sleep will be disturbed! Food wise there are no complaints. As visitors to India we had an expectation to have good Indian food and that is what you get. The chefs take an interest if you show enthusiasm for their cuisine -my husband loves paneer dishes and mentioned this;he consequently went through his bodyweight of it specially prepared for him.If you are at the other end of the spectrum and only eat egg and chips they will do that too (bizarre but we've seen it).As well as the buffet restaurant there is the poolside restaurant and Kebabs and Curries. For us the poolside experience was a bit too hot and sticky to be comfortable but Kebabs and Curries is superb-very high standard of food and service in air conditioned surroundings. The entertainment on offer is not to our taste, but when we are there we are too chilled out to care. I must mention Dr Alfredo. An actual GP he comes in a few times a week to do aqua aerobics, this is a gentle diversion from lazing on sunbeds. You can also have treatments from the Dr in the spa.He does reflexology and aromatherapy massage. This is all much cheaper than at home.I would say that in comparison to massage techniques I've experienced in the UK it's a lot more strenuous-prepare to be pummelled!! A quick word about the beach, it is beautiful but the strong current is not conducive to safe swimming. The beach shacks have sunbeds which you can use to take a break from the heat-usually very breezy.Just buy a drink which will be ridiculously cheap and away you go. The staff are lovely and you are treated like a welcome guest, which is how it should be.Even though there are many other lovely places in the world we want to go to, I think we are very close to booking a sixth visit which says it all really.

Room Tip: Avoid the bungalow with the generator behind it

Me & my wife spent three days here in Nov 2011, celebrating our first marriage anniversary. I had booked the stay directly on phone and online money transfer which went smoothly. The first thing one noticed was the considerable distance from Madgaon railway station to this hotel, but I guess considering the kind of untouched beach-side location it offers, that should not be a deterrent.
Immediately on arriving, the check-in was smooth and the staff courteous but instead of the Deluxe Room that I had booked, we were led to Superior Room, a huge disappointment for the wife! Sensing something amiss, I inquired regarding this and they took another 15 minutes to relocate us to our "correct" room. Deliberate or unintentional?? We'll never know, but had I not brought this to their notice, I am sure we'd have been made to continue there!
Anyway, we found the accommodations offered to be clean, well furnished and comfortable, though not very spacious. The bathroom wasn't much to talk about, even though it was a Deluxe room - with a bathtub that took ages to fill because of the weak water stream, plus the water was (at best) lukewarm. Well, at least the bath was clean!
By far, the two best features of the hotel were it beautiful clean swimming pool and as noted earlier, the untouched calm & beautiful beach. Both are surrounded by well landscaped clean and green gardens that are a pleasure to walk around.
Indian food was just OK and of a limited variety (esp veg food), but quite expensive for the quality offered. I guess they cater more to Western and Continental cuisine. They do serve excellent cakes, pastries and other bakery products though! The buffet breakfast though, was at an altogether higher level. The evening entertainment programs have enough variety and quality to keep one engrossed.
To sum it all up, I'd say its a value-for-money hotel that delivers exactly what it promises - though the service and food could be improved, especially for Indian clientele.

Room Tip: Do confirm your room type before accepting accommodation!!
