The beach were the hotel is located is beyond gorgeous. It is situated in the less populated area of Diani beach, so you may expect a calm environment. You could be a little annoyed by the sellers walking up and down the beach all day long, anyway. There is a security man in the hotel to control them, which is a little bit ackward, but required, I reckon.

The hotel facilities are quite nice: the beach area was relaxing and quiet; the restaurant by the beach was very good, with an impressive decor. Also, it is open all day long, which is excellent.

The service is good, too. Most of the employees are polite and welcoming.

I was less impressed by the rooms, though. We stayed in regular rooms (not the suites, nor the cabanas), and I am afraid they were too regular. The bathroom is very little, the shower is only semi-closed, so the water went everywhere every time we took a shower. Also, there were no ammenities, only dispensers, which I find a little off for an upscale accomodation.

Finally, there were several screaming little frogs in a little pond by our room which made going to sleep a little more complicated than it should have been.

Thank you for your review! We are in the process of removing the pond since we received too many complaints regarding the frogs noise! So for your next stay you will experience a more quiet night!! Hope to welcome you back soon!

An interesting trip here for sure! Where do we start. A wonderful setting with a magnificent beach and delightful waters. One of the best beaches I have seen on my travels. Yes, you get hustled by the locals but this is something that can be handled and you have to admire the persistence. The gymnastic team on the beach by the restaurant were great with our 11 year old son who also had a great time scuba diving with turtles, stingrays and much more!

The hotel has some great staff led admirably by Richard was very helpful after we had an issue with our room, this was handled with a lot of care and we were delighted with the solution even if a Baboon did open the door and enter our new room while we were just outside! Lock your doors and don't leave food out! We were also treated to a lovely meal on the beach.

Locally Ali Barbour's Cave Restaurant is a unique "must do" The massages in the hotel are also excellent

I like the size of this establishment and the personal touches on offer. We would certainly return.

My first time to stay at Sands of Nomad. We had eaten at the restaurant by the beach previously while staying at a nearby hotel and the food was great. We decided to spend three nights and before getting to the rooms, our first stop was the restaurant and we were not disappointed. Watson and Bakari are really good at what they do together with the rest of the team. However a bit disappointed with the service from the front desk. Asked for the manager to attend to something which they forgot and also forgot to book an appointment at the spa. Rooms could do with a retouch to but the restaurant makes up for a lot.

Room Tip: The lobster the lobster

We stayed for 4 nights in June and opted to arrive at the Ukunda airstrip rather than Mombasa airport which meant a 15min transfer by hotel car rather than an hour! The beachside location and forest surroundings are stunning, the pool area is nice and the restaurant is fantastic in both setting and food - the seafood was divine and the terrace is truly beautiful. It's also great value for money on a half board basis, with a generous breakfast and a wide range of al a carte options for lunch or dinner. The service is also great - the porters and reception staff are friendly; the concierge Benson was helpful and easy to work with, organising a great half day trip to Mombasa for us; and the restaurant staff are hospitable and efficient. The restaurant manager is always there to welcome and to assist. We were upgraded from a forest view to a pool view room and it was a good size and fairly comfortable. Just a few niggles - the safe was too small to fit all our valuables in, the decor and bathroom suites are slightly dingy and showing their age, and the mattress is very hard. We stayed in room 11, which is a joining room and the noise from the neighbours travels easily. I think the real luxury is to be found in the suites - they are all self contained and have their own gardens with loungers, overlooking the beach. I think if you want to guarantee a beach view you'll have to take a suite. If the rooms were updated and done in a similar style to the light, breezy, beach style of the restaurant terrace they'd be beautiful. The bar service at the pool is also quite slow, which is a shame since the cocktails were great and they could definitely make more money if they came round more often! Overall, a mixed bag - location, service and food all excellent, room comfort not so much. However, if you're not too fussy about luxury and can cope with a hard mattress then this is still an enjoyable stay, we certainly found it a nice place to unwind after the hustle and bustle of Nairobi and the energy of a Masai Safari. Also plus points for being an eco conscious hotel and limiting the amount of plastic used. With a few updates this hotel could be truly stunning, luxurious, and great value for money. As it is it's perfectly comfortable and gets away with a lot because of it's absolutely beautiful location and friendly staff.

Room Tip: suites have the best chance of a beach view.

What a wonderful place to spend a vacation! We went during the off season, so it was quiet and very peaceful. The resort staff is outstanding as are the facilities. The rooms are comfortable and adequate for a nice stay. You can't beat the beach or the views of the landscape. We would visit here again.
