I stayed with friends for 3 nights in early Oct 2017. I have mixed feelings about the experience.

The pros:
- neat, adequately furnished, spacious rooms.
- grounds are well maintained. Beautiful baobab tree. Truly beach front with direct access to breathtaking stretches of beach.
- there seems to be some attempt to keep the place with the times.
- with luck you may be experience thoughtful service now and then.
- appears well prepped for high season fun filled (water and beach sports, themed nights) if this is your thing.
- reasonably priced, at least during our stay, so I didn't feel robbed.

The cons:
- service sucked. Took them at least half an hour to check in 4 of us. At a time when there were not other guests checking in.
- scarcity of information. The front desk didn't bother explaining any amenities. For example I only learnt about the 4pm complimentary tea service two days in and only by chance.
- pool attendants seem more interested in catching up instead of attending to guests. I had to walk over to them for towels each visit I made to the pool; it felt like they doubted we were guests.
- we must have been not more than 10 guests on site one afternoon and yet we had to go looking for waiters for drinks. A bit of a shame too for the property as we simply spent less as a result.
- Except for breakfast spread, in addition to taking too long the food was so atrocious that three of the four left their lunches half eaten on the first meal there. We ended up having all other meals offsite.

The only reason this is not a 2 star rating is I am chalking down service issues to low season/less experienced staffing. Though not a great excuse, it may explain the disconnect.

In all, for the same rate I would revisit it for an offsite-activity filled short B&B only stay.

From the moment we arrived, to a massive beaming smile and "karibu, welcome" to the moment we left to hugs and handshakes and more smiles, the staff made us (a family of 4, mum, dad, grown up daughter and son) feel like we were THE most important people in the place. We loved the greetings from every member of staff, whatever they were doing and no matter how busy doing it. The hotel has a fantastic location, lovely, abundant and varied food, good facilities (pools, tennis courts, volleyball, pool, table tennis) delightful gardens, charming cottage style rooms (many with an ocean view) but the BEST thing is the people who run this resort. The "animations" team laid on a variety of fun things to do and we joined in with everything. They were so much fun to be around and by the end of our stay they were much more like our pals than people providing a service. All in all an unforgettable holiday, made so by the staff! Thank you! Asante! From Mr Peter.

Room Tip: Rooms with ocean views are amazing!

Imagine opening French doors to a view of the beautiful Indian Ocean. The rooms are a traditional Swahili coastal style with wooden beams in the ceiling and a model tile floor. The pool is crystal clear and the beach is pristine sand. There are two additional small pools near the rooms for privacy. The sea is a bit rough, but you can swim about 100 m down the beach where a salt-water river feeds back-and-fourth in to the Ocean.

The breakfast and dinner buffet is great (and the dining room has an ocean view), but there could be more seafood served in my opinion. The staff are truly amazing. They are friendly, very accommodating, and kind; they make you feel at home. Imagine the gardener bringing you a coconut decorated with flowers for you to drink and eat. There are comfortable lounge chairs provided with cushions and beach towels by the sea and the hawkers do not disturb you.

Of great enjoyment are the evening events after dinner that are organized poolside by the staff (i.e. genuine Masaai traditional dance, dance by local fishermen, dance from across Africa by the staff).

Also, of note, my luggage was lost in Nairobi and the staff made an extra effort to have it retrieved and brought directly to my room. Without them, the luggage would have stayed in Nairobi for certain.

Room Tip: Rooms by the beach are amazing.

My experience in the indian ocean beach resort was not the best.
The bathrooms were very dirty and I felt as if you had to wear shoes just to walk in the bathroom.
The minibar fridge didn't work very well in our room so our water was always a little on the warmer side.
The menu was very monotonous and the food was mostly disgusting and if they say that dinner that night will be in "the jungle" then I would start looking for a nice restaurant out of the hotel to go and have a nice dinner because the food in the main restaurant is bad but the food they serve in "the jungle" is somehow even worse if that is actually possible!

Room Tip: the ocean view rooms are worthwhile

My husband and I and our friends, another couple with a young baby, stayed here for 3 nights and it was absolutely amazing. We had rooms along the beach, which was beautiful and clean. The restaurant also had a lovely atmosphere and the staff was very pleasant and professional. The food (buffet style) was delicious and there was always lots to choose from. Highly recommended!
