We visited this place today and it was overpriced. It was 30 minutes walking, or a bit less. We didn’t see monkeys because it was windy. The story and the background was not too relevant for us. It was below expectation for us!

Depending on your guide, you will get a completely different experience. I find the tour a little overpriced for what they actually offer. You had to pay transport, tour and then they also asked a tip. The dressing up and the rules regarding the sacred parts was fun.

Kaya Kinondo provides a fascinating insight in Kenya's pre-colonial history. It is a guided walk through one of the last small bits of what was a sacred place for the Digo people, who trace their history to the 13th century, The walks takes a good hour, and is rough under foot, so have proper shoes. The guide we had told us about the spiritual world of the Digo, their economy, and their use of he forest, amongst others for medicines. Unfortunately, it also told the story of how post-indepence the Digo land was grabbed, until only this small stretch of 17 hectares remained. Sadly, this history is not taught in Kenyan schools.
The Kaya is fairly easy to reach from Diani, go South on the Beach Road for about 12 km. The last 6 km is rough road, and a tuktuk will charge you, if you are a tourist, around Ksh 500. Be aware for the ride back. There are no routine tuktuks on the rough road, so either ask the phone number of your driver, or pay him to wait for you. the entrance and guide fee is Ksh 1000 for tourists, but that goes towards conservation, so it is well worth it.
Thorughly recommended.

The entrance of the Kaya seems like a very small place, but once inside Be prepared to walk! There is also a small token given to the staff, give with your heart!

I am no Botanist but found this interesting and tour was delivered with a passion. Pricing not published, so felt costs for my Kenyan G/F were a bit steep. I am 6'1" and parts were challenging for a tall person, but glad have done the visisit.
