This was an ideal place for a light lunch, mid-walk. The menu of more substantial plates looked very appetising but the remainder of the walk might have been a struggle. Some places can’t hide disappointment at such moments moments of modest revenue, but not here, even though their hands were full preparing for a local food and drink festival in a couple of days.
We had a lovely lunch with very attentive service, and will be sure to call again.

We were looking for a venue near Oakham to host a gathering of 30-40 friends and relatives to celebrate Mum’s birthday. Having dined at the Wheatsheaf on a couple of previous occasions and having been impressed with the food and service, we asked Marva if she could host this event. The arrangements were very straight forward, prices reasonable and the team were very accommodating. Lots of positive feedback from guests about the atmosphere, food and generally good time had by all.

Stinkanto on the main menu is top drawer. It's a leg of pork, slow roasted and served with a rich BBQ sauce. The accompanying fries, slaw and salad top off what is a great dish. Can't comment on anything else on the menu, to be honest I don't think I ever will. Each time I return I will plump for the Stinkanto. (£15.75)

Called in on spec for a table for Sunday lunch, fortunately one was available and we were soon seated. Choice of 3 roasts - beef, pork or lamb - plus vegetarian option and other dishes besides. The beef is served rare but there was no problem in having it cooked further. The roast came with Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, roast potatoes, jug of gravy and individual dishes of vegetables, today's being peas, cauliflower, carrots, Brussels, red cabbage, broccoli, all beautifully cooked. We did indulge in desserts which were equally excellent. The waiting staff were attentive and friendly. Roast was priced at £13.95 and desserts at £5.75, you get what you pay for, it was a very good lunch.
