Booked our stay with a voucher but the nights we initially wanted were not available, so the hotel offered us better nights which we didnt think would be available!
Our room was a really good size in the old stable block and was nice and quiet.
The bar is well stocked, and the menu is nice and varied.
All the Staff are really helpful and even when it was really busy on the Sunday night, they managed well in my opinion. Steve even went as far as to do us a special tomahawk steak off the menu - which I can highly recommend!
Hotel is well located for walks around dove dale and also Thors Cave is only 10 minutes away.
Only issue is there was zero signal but this is obviously not the hotels fault. If you need to make a call they will let you use their landline which I thought was a nice touch! The WiFi is only in the main building too. Overall a great little find and we will certainly be back.

We were away with 6 friends for my husband's and one of the girl friend's birthday. We stayed at the Charles Cotton Hotel and can highly recommend it. Very comfortable rooms, very warm (it was during the bad weather in March with snow before and as we left) but most of all, the most friendly, helpful staff you could wish to meet. It was our pleasure to stay there. Regarding breakfast. it is cooked especially for you individually and exactly what you choose from a large menu. Juice, cereal, toast,,jams & marmalades etc. are on the buffet.

Room Tip: We were in Room 11. Very good size, faced town square, very quiet and comfortable.

We booked this for a two day midweek stay on a special deal.We arrived on the Wednesday and had a lovely welcome from the manager Steve and his staff, we had a slight, delay as our room was not quite ready, so Steve showed us through to the lounge bar and gave us a complimentary coffee. We were staying in the cottage attached to the Hotel which was self contained and nice and quiet. They have a steak night on a Wednesday and we enjoyed a delicious rump steak chips salad and a bottle of wine. Excellent meal and very good value. The breakfasts were lovely with a good choice, hospitality throughout our stay was excellent.Full marks to Steve and all his staff.

On our return from last year we couldn't believe the change .Steve and his staff have given us a trip to remember. Take my hat of to the chef who serves the best steak and ale pie we have ever tasted . the local whim ales are a classic touch too. keep up the great work and we will be returning very soon. Thank you. JS

Generally nice stay- food good- our room was a good size but bathroom far too small.
and no hot water pressure- shower poor.
not impressed with house keeping-our room was not cleaned and re-stocked.only bed made
reception and restaurant staff very friendly but bar manager very grumpy and not customer friendly-needs to go on training course.
