“A Classy Homestay With A Beautiful Garden.”
Reviewed 5 February 2015

We stayed in this classy villa for a weekend trip during the new year. We were a big group of 15 people and hence we had booked all the available accommodation. There are 6 rooms in the home stay, all of which are beautifully done up and are very neat and clean. The villa is located a little away from the main town area but that shouldn't be any problem because the town itself is quite small. All the sightseeing spots are nearby. I found the villa very beautiful and could not help admiring it. The hosts, Mrs. & Mr. Dey, were wonderful and did their bit to make our stay comfortable. The food is prepared by Mrs. Dey who is an excellent cook and a versatile one too, but we, being vegetarians, could not fully appreciate her culinary skills.
While booking or staying in Mitali one has keep in mind that it is not a full service hotel but a Homestay, which means limited and restricted services and you if you accept that you will cherish every moment of your stay in Mitali.

Room Tip: Rooms in the main building are bigger.

We stayed in Mitali during the second weekend of January 2015.

Booking Process --- Right from the first mail and phone, we liked the Mitali. The information on the place, location, pick up details, guide map (for people driving down from Kolkata), booking process was well narrated in one simple email.

Advice to all people reading this review -- Please book well in advance since most rooms are easily sold especially during the weekends.

The place itself is an oasis of clam, peace and tranquility. Well maintained garden with a lovely verandh ! The rooms were clean and well maintained. Both rooms in the main house has lots of ‘books’ to keep you entertained. The evenings you can spent time in the main hall room coming to know the others guest and the host.

Food is excellent. Breakfast is a simple choice of eggs and homemade jams with a hot cup of tea or coffee (as your prefer). I would suggest that all take the ‘full board’ option since there are no nearby eating places and that way you can enjoy a variety of ‘food preparation’ by the gracious hostess. She is an excellent cook !! During our stay we had a verity of food – Bengali, Indian, Italian !! each meal was very very tasty !!

Overall – a perfect getaway from Kolkata for peace & food !!!

Room Tip: All rooms are unique.....

What a wonderful and loving couple. I sincerely enjoyed playing carram with Krishno and the rest of the guests at the house. It's a bit rustic at the home, and there's definitely some charm to the house. The food was absolutely amazing. I loved the fact that we were in one of the most interesting cities in India due to Tagore's influence, but to have the privilege to stay with Krishno and Shantum together was a gift.

Having an Italian opera singer as another guest provided us the opportunity to hear Lalam Geeti (one of the best Baul groups) perform with an opera singer. It was surreal.

It was sincerely a pleasure to have had the opportunity to stay with them and the company was fantastic. I gave it 4 stars because I'm used to the 4 Seasons and some of the finest 5 star hotels on the planet, and I would not compare this to a 4 Seasons hotel, but the experience and wonderful experience definitely puts in a very high rating. Thank you again so much, I hope to see you again.

Much love.

Lovely place amidst nature. Very calm, peaceful and tranquil surroundings with generous care and attention from the hosts made for a memorable stay. Plenty of flowers and plants is a botanist's delight. The home cooked food (mostly from home grown vegetables) was delicious. The hosts Krishno and Sukanya were very helpful and took excellent care of the guests. We were also highly impressed with the cleanliness and the decor of the rooms. Needless to mention we would definitely like to return to Mitali for a longer stay in the near future.

P.S- Chicken roast, fries, soup, garlic bread, salad and chocolate cake on Christmas night was unforgettable. Absolutely lip smacking.

We liked Mitali Guesthouse very much. Well furnished rooms a lovely garden and delicious homemade food is only one thing, but the kind hospitality of Sukarna who runs the homestay makes it outstanding. She runs the place not only with much profesionality but also with heart, you feel at home immediately. We stayed one day longer as planned as it was so peaceful, contrary to the noisy hubub of Indian live elsewhere.
There are different rooms, some come even with a kitchenete and balcony. All have an attached bathroom and they are clean and with geysir. There are lots of books about almost every subject you can imagine, also about Tagore and Shantiniketan, so you won't have a chance to be bored while doing nothing. We even could use the bicycles to explore the near countryside and villages.
