Me and a friend had booked a two nights package in this resort for 13th & 14th Aug. We travelled in a group of two couples each with their daughters and mothers. After a thoroughly pleasant journey by Royal Cruiser Volvo bus from Kolkata to Burdwan and onward by a car we reached the resort around noon. The location is a bit secluded but saved us from the din of the tourists flocking the town on an extended weekend.
The outward appearance of the resort raised our enthusiasm but a short walk down the corridors from the reception to our rooms greeted us with a sense of disappointment. The rooms were cramped and ill lit. The bed & toilet linen were not too clean. The window panes did not close properly and the plenty of well fed mosquitoes and lizards were not too happy with our intrusion which led them on a mission against us with vengeance. The temperature of the air conditioners could not be controlled and the miniature television sets hardly functioned.
The telephones in our rooms were not functioning properly and ordering for tea from room service was a challenge. Even the water sent in the tea pots were cold. The first half an hour left us a bit sad for having selected this resort.
But our mood started lifting once we reached the restaurant. Starting from the decor to the staff , everything was impressive. The buffet spread was a real "treat". The array of items was amazing and the food was simply excellent. Honestly we retreated to our rooms having already erased most of the initial disappointment. In fact the meals thereon including breakfast , lunch and dinner were simply superb. The Chinese menu might need to get a facelift though but that was a negligible point.
A tour of the sprawling property post a sumptuous meal is highly recommended as it is a pleasure to check out the lawns and the water bodies in and around the property. The swimming pool is large but was not usable since the water had not been drained out for a few weeks it seemed . This was taken care off on the very first day of our arrival but was still not usable owing to the plethora of floating insects and vegetation. This could partly be owing to the monsoon season. Other travellers might have seen it in better days.
To sum it up our collective feeling is that the property needs much more attention on overall maintenance . Staff is very friendly and I am reiterating that the food is simply excellent. A bit of attention on maintenance and room decor is all that is required along with a relook at the pricing which currently makes one feel it is not exactly a value proposition.
