It was quite difficult for me to find many lodging options in Cerro Castillo. This hotel popped up on a few websites with decent reviews and low prices. So, without many options, we booked here. This was a mistake. The Don Niba is located at the back of town and serves as a restaurant and hotel. The room facilities are quite poor. The common area (consisting of a couch and TV) smells like sewerage. The room, which appeared to be one of five, had a similar smell to it. The smell was slightly masked by two air fresheners in the bathroom and a cracked window. It is quite clear they are aware of the terrible smell and are trying to mask it. The bathroom is not very clean and the hot water is not very hot. The other main problem here is the noise. The walls are less than paper thin. I believe the room is build out of particle wood. In fact, the roof of the bathroom literally is. Therefore, you can hear every single sound in every other room and outside. I am not exaggerating. You might as well be in a hostel with several other people because that is what it sounds like. The hotel provides breakfast, but does not hold up their end of the bargain. They say it starts at 7am. We were there at 7am both mornings and the restaurant was shut and dark. Cerro Castillo seems to be a pretty broken shell of a town unlike every other village I stayed in on the Austral. Therefore, it may be near impossible to find a good hotel here. However, I would suggest trying literally any other form of lodging other than this dump. Do not stay here. You would do better sleeping in your car.
