Casa Portigioia is one of the best B&B's I have ever visited. It was so beautiful, clean, modern and relaxing. The purveyors, Terry & Marcello made our stay memorable. Warm and friendly hosts. The were so helpful with our travel plans, aquired tickets for us to see the David, and they went out of their way to accomodate us. We were so lucky to have found this little treasure tucked in the Tuscan hills. The food and wine were outstandind! I can't say enough about Casa Portagioia. A must for your Buckrt List! Casa "Port-a-joy-a" Portagioia, is a JOYFUL experience. Terry and Marcello are wonderful hosts. They started by making a stressful arrival in Arezzo an adventure and welcomed us late at night with a smile, dinner and wine. The rooms have everything you would expect in a 5 star hotel, and the beds are so comfortable, the stress of traveling just melted away. Breakfasts... magnificent! Marcello is a fantastic chef ... The villa, B&B cottage, grounds, vineyard and olive groves make you want to get the camera out and take photo after photo - We were Marcello and Terry’s last guests of the season, they were so helpful in making our first trip to Tuscany the “Best part of our Italy adventure” I will recommend staying with them to all of my friends and family. I know I will return to Casa Portagioia.

When Terry and Marcello welcome you to Casa Portagioia you know you are at home. Their warmth, sense of humor, and charm are most inviting. The sleeping rooms have all the amenities of a fine hotel. Be sure you are up in time for breakfast as the eggs and the orange juice are so very fresh you would not want to miss them along with all the other accompaniments. Marcello prepares dinner on specific evenings. The highlight of ours was monk fish wrapped in prosciutto and then baked. Yumm! I am still waiting for the recipe. Although the weather was a bit cool for us to swim, the pool was beautiful as it overlooked the vineyards and olive groves. Casa Portagioia is a bit out of the way but that should not stop anyone from enjoying one of the best B & B's in Italy. Its' location is part of the charm.

We just begrudgingly ended a five night stay with Terry and Marcello. All of the positive things previous reviewers have said are true. Terry and Marcello are warm, funny, charming, gracious and informative. The property is quiet, cozy, elegant, spotlessly clean and beutifully finished and landscaped. We had breakfast there daily, and were fortunate enough to enjoy their last dinner of the season. The food and drink was always fresh and tasty, and always accompanied by lighthearted, conversation with our hosts and other guests. Marcello and Terry didn't overlook a single detail!!

We have recently returned from our 25th Anniversary Vacation in Italy. After booking 3 nights in Rome, 4 in Praiano and then 2 nights in Venice we then planned to stay at Casa Portagioia for 3 nights continuing on to Umbria for the last 4 nights before heading home.

However, we continued to read the positive reviews being added daily on Trip Advisor and couldn't resist changing our plans to stay a full seven nights with Terry and Marcello.

After driving up the beautifully landscaped driveway and seeing the Casa Portagioia sign on the gate we were met by Terry who warmly welcomed us and showed us around the property and then into our room, the "Veterini". Our expectations were exceptionally high on arriving at Casa Portagioia and we could not have been more pleasantly surprised. We both thought that the room was even better than portrayed on the website. The quality of the furnishings and fittings were of an exceptionally high standard. Clearly a lot of thought had gone into designing and furnishing the room - from the incredibly comfortable bed and pillows, to the beautifully shuttered picture windows, to the grand wardrobe which had plenty of space for our week's worth of clothes. The beautiful room was more than big enough for our seven-night stay. There was even a flat screen tv offering several English channels, Sky, CNN etc. as well as an iHome stereo to both play music and charge your iPhone. There was a mini fridge with sodas, beers, wine and chocolates which are provided at a surprisingly reasonable price (not the customary mini-bar gouging that we all hate). Also provided was a beautiful mini decanter of Vin Santo, a lovely local liqueur I believe. We were even thrilled with the bathroom facilities. The shower was a generous size, had a great powerful shower head, and plenty of hot water. Everything was spotlessly clean and was kept that way every day by a very pleasant and jovial housekeeper. There were high quality bath products (shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and even body wash as well as bars of soap) provided every day, as well as a perfumed pillow spray which was a really nice personal touch that I loved. There were plenty of big soft white towels in the bathroom and I personally enjoyed the towel warmer. As we were there in the Autumn the weather did turn a bit chilly, however the room and bathroom were more than adequately heated. For those who plan to visit in the Summer, there is an air conditioning unit in the room.

Casa Portagioia is truly a beautiful place but what really made our visit to Tuscany so memorable for us were our hosts Terry and Marcello. Their hospitality was extraordinary. Both patiently provided us and every other guest with daily travel tips, helpful suggestions, the best routes, and quite honestly helping us to see Tuscany and Umbria in a way that we would not have been able to do so had we just been following a guide book. Their knowledge of the area, tips on best places to park etc, and too many tidbits of information to mention were just part and parcel of our breakfast time each morning. Speaking of breakfast, do not miss the wonderful scrambled eggs cooked by Marcello! They are amazing! Never mind the coin we threw in the Trevi Fountain, it'll be Marcello's eggs that bring us back to Italy and Casa Portagioia! The eggs followed the wonderfully prepared spread of fresh croissants, an amazing array of fresh fruit both whole & cut, a huge selection of cereals, yoghurts, freshly squeezed orange juice and let's not forget Terry's cappuccinos! Terry and Marcello offer an amazingly delicious 5-course dinner on Tuesdays and Saturdays. This is a must! Marcello is an extremely accomplished chef and our meal was outstanding, to say the least!

The warmth, humour and friendship of Terry and Marcello really made our time in Tuscany all that we'd hoped it would it be and more. If you plan on visiting Tuscany for one night or seven, this is where you'll want to be!
