Not worrying about other ratings, I would say this might be the best restaurant in the world where you don’t have to wear a suit. Every one of the 15 or 16 courses was spot on, inventive and delicious. Even the butter was home made from smoked goat’s milk. It is a good hour’s beautiful drive from Rioja into a tiny Alpine hamlet. The entire staff was welcoming, took time to find out about us and relate the food to our experience. The four hour lunch was definitely worth the many Euros.

It is a charming out of the way restaurant. Friendly staff and fresh produce. My only complaint is on the disproportion between meats and sea food. I wish to have served more meats. Apart from the chorizo and the rid steak everything else was seafood. I would of loved some poultry, pork, veal of game meat.

One of the best lunch I ever had. Well deserved #6 position of top 50 restaurants of the world. The food is amazing. The location is perfect. It is in the middle of nowhere but the surroundings are amazing. Go there during lunch so you can enjoy the area. The service is not perfect, I went there offseason. The screw up one of my orders (drinks) but then they fix it. That is why I am giving them 5

5 of us went for lunch and even with huge expectations we were wowed and amazed and blown away. Set in a hamlet of half a dozen or so buildings in the middle of nowhere in the Basque Country, the trip was definitely worthwhile as we had an incredible 4 hour lunch. The location and staff help make it a very unpretentious venue, where the focus is on the amazing food and experience - they could easily pack a lot more diners into the beautiful room but are limited by the quantity of produce, much of which is home made each day by Bittor, which makes it feel much more special (and correspondingly harder to book). The service is very friendly and warm, spot on.

But you come for the food, with several of the tasting menu dishes amongst the best I've ever eaten. The home-churned butter is outrageous, with hints of blue cheese. I doubt I will ever eat better gambas de Palamos. The fish was delicious, the pea dish inspired, the anchovies and chorizo superb. The tomahawk steak was extraordinary, black and crispy on the outside, purple and exquisite inside. And who would ever have thought that ice cream churned over a wood fire with beetroot juice would lift the palette as it does. Add a comprehensive and great value wine list (hats off to San Sebastián for this also) and everyone is happy.

We were quickly shown the kitchen, including the wood grills that only Bittor is allowed to work. He said hello, a genuinely charming and unassuming man that clearly loves his job. A stunning restaurant with exceptional food and whilst not cheap is worth every peseta. Planning another visit as soon as possible!

Voted 6th best rrstaurant and it is a fabulous place.
Gorgeous surroundings, slick but friendly service makes you feel warm and in a special place.
Food is good, sublime and ok in random measure but the experience of sitting there for 3 1/2 hours having the 10 course tasting menu is a most enjoyable one.
Is it worth the money? Arguably not, but it is always about choices and I for one am glad I have been.
