“Nice and relaxing stay”
Reviewed 5 March 2017

We spent 2 nights to chill out after the busy pace of travel and this hotel is perfect for that. The village is very basic and not that appealing but the rock that overlooks the town is amazing. Watching monkeys scaling an almost sheer rock face at sunset was terrific.

The buildings and gardens are beautifully kept and there is a large variation in rooms. Personally I did not like the newer building which lacked charm but has a great view. Our room was smallish but comfortable however the facilities varied greatly from room to room. The pool was great but still pretty cold.

The food generally lacked flavour and none of our hot food was served hot. The rooftop restaurant had no real ambience in terms of lighting or music which could easily be improved with a bit of imagination.

We had planned to do the step well dinner but after we had eaten at the restaurant to find that the food was fairly average we decided not to proceed. It was really hard to justify the cost of approx $130AUD per person without drinks. A lot of visitors were on package deals and probably not aware of the actual price of this event.

We did very much enjoy the leopard safari even though we did not spot one. The cars were very new and comfortable and the guides very knowledgeable. The morning tea spot was terrific.

We would however suggest that the hotel should be for children above 12 years of age. There were a couple of loud young children which disrupted part of our otherwise relaxing stay.

The general manager was terrific and an absolute professional. Very rare to see a woman working in a role like this in this part of India.

Room Tip: request the older buildings - more charming

This is a special place to visit and this was our second time staying. After a slight glitch with the room allocation we were upgraded to a beautiful suite in the recently built building. A balcony with an amazing view. To be fair the staff do everything possible to ensure that the guests have a memorable time and the two issues we faced had nothing to do with the local staff. The website states clearly that every room has a view. This is untrue. They don't. The noise came from a wedding (I assume) but it was disturbing though not the fault of the staff.

Great boutique property. The stepwell evening was a highlight of our tour in India-we are sworn to secrecy but you will definitely enjoy it. Rooms very comfortable and attractive, food service very good, very responsive general manager. Slight glitch with the reception/checkout process did not mar a truly great stay. Would also suggest if possible some supplementary heating of the beautiful but still- chilly pool..

We had one of the most comfortable rooms to date on our tour, large and sumptuous with a balcony looking over the surrounding village and granite countryside. Chilly pool which I enjoyed to myself. Some great food on their romantic roof side restaurant. Best of all we sighted leopards on the 2 safaris we did driving off road through some spectacular granite countryside. Good wildlife spotted on a country jeep safari too. Plenty to do. Well looked after. Main areas are rather shabby chic biut I am not sure it quite works.

Room Tip: We were in the newly built area. room on level 1 which we could not fault.

A dreadful approach to a wonderful haven of peace. An old style Indian fort with lovely open spaces. We had a suite in the recently built Heritage building which was excellent. We were taken by ox cart for a dinner in the old step well which sounds a bit naff but was a magical experience with excellent food. A truly memorable stay. Met a member of the princely family that owns the hotel and he was a real charmer!

Room Tip: Rooms in the new Heritage building are old style Indian but completely modern facilities, a great co...
