This is my second time staying at this hotel and as I remembered from first time the views over Vättern (a lake) is beautiful. There is 2 parts of this hotell. The old main building which is very charming and castle like and a newer building little further away from the main building which is nothing special but ok for a quick overnight.
Quite expensive for what you get but it has its charm.
Think the last stay is the last one for me, there is more bang for the buck in the vicinity.

The location of this hotel is great. Close to the road, easy to find, plenty of parking, close to the famous town Gränna. The check in time was 3 pm but room was not ready until 30 min later. Our room was in another building on first floor, second floor has a great view. The dinner we had in the restaurant was a disappointment as the service. My suggestion is make a stop have a coffee and enjoy the view. Then continue the trip.

In spite of his beauty, the food is really few, very good one but not too much. the place has also an small church. The personal is attentive. Only the bathroom was piss smally, but that is generalized on this country were even the trains smaell bad

Gyllene Uttern is somehow a Swedish institution. Perhaps because everyone and anyone that has driven through Sweden will know where it is. The buildings have been built and re-built over many years and at the moment the main building has a very cosy old style feel to it. The former terrace has been glassed in and now constitutes a dining room. Style wise not really in keeping with the remainder of the building but we forgive them for that as it is clearly more useful to have indoor dining than outdoor dining in Sweden. And the view is fantastic.
The sleeping quarters are in a newer less charming building and are really nothing special.
Dinner was nice and assume breakfast is good too (I had to leave too early to know).
If you stay here, do it for the views and to know that you have been there :-)

I had the chance to stay there and to enjoy dinner in the panoramic restaurant. The food was superb, the service flawless and with exactly the personal touch which you would like without being overdone, and the location really does not need any further explanation!
The crew at the reception was efficient and super-friendly and even helped me out with my missing bag.
The rooms in their annex are ok, the view out of the windows incredibly superb, I guess great for wedding pictures ;-)
In the morning I was told that some refurbishment in the rooms will start soon - and even without that, I am sure to come back again.

Room Tip: Annex named "Andrée" was good for me. All the rooms there have lake-view...
